Where do expired Domain.com domains go when they expire? That is, are they listed at GD expired? Dropcatch exprired? or somewhere else. Any help appreciated.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I thought you would never ask. :xf.smile:.

All unregistered .com domains are Verisign properties. So, you can handreg them until they are registered.

I've seen a few at GD auctions. I think GD are monetizing this stream.

Really, you can hand register unregistered domains?!? That's great to know, but doesn't answer my question on where dropping/expired domains go before they are released back to be registered.

Ok, thats more clear. I answered based on after the domain has gone through 45 days cycle.

Heres your answer.

"Depends on registrar to registrar".

Why did I even ask. :xf.rolleyes:

Let me try and explain in lil more detail.

1. Godaddy - They have their own marketplace. Lets say, it has 2 parts.

A) Godaddy Expired Auctions
B) Godaddy Closeouts

So, domains in above marketplaces are domains registered at godaddy and its partners. eg: tucows. Only their expired domains are available there for bidding and then later at closeouts.

"So, basically, the domains are still under control of godaddy and their respective partners."

2) Namejet - Namejet is not a registrar. They only have a marketplace. Their prerelease is similar to Godaddy Expired auctions. Only difference is in start of price. They have domains that are going to expire at their partner registrars. eg: netsol.

"So, basically, the prerelease domains are still under control of their respective partners."

Namejet also provides a dropcatch service for dropped domains that are not under any registrars control and going to be released by Verisign on dropping day.

That is, are they listed at GD expired? Dropcatch exprired? or somewhere else.

You mentioned Dropcatch in your question, thats why I thought you are asking about domains that have completed the redemption period cycle and have dropped and not registered anywhere.

Dropcatch - They have recently started prerelease domains from Namebright. But they were and still are primarily a dropcatch service for dropped domains that are not under any registrars control and been released by Verisign on dropping day.

Hope it helps and pls feel free to ask more.

Wow. Now I know how Dropcatch and NameJet work. Only took me 20 years and a bunch of auctions at these sites to learn this.

I'm not looking for the process of expired domains!

My question was, and still is, where are, where do, expired 'Domain.com' domains get listed 'before' they go to the drop catch services! Dynadot has 'expired domains' in their footer. So does Name.com, and probably a bunch of other registers, but 'not' Domain.com! So they must be 'somewhere'. If anyone 'knows' such, please advise. If not, no need to comment.
