advice Should I buy out a competitor .io domain?

More details needed to understand your point....

If your "product" is better then the .com will always win out.

If he has a legitimate business on the name, I doubt he is going to sell you just the name. He would want to sell you the whole package, I would think. (if he sells at all)

It is hard to answer firmly. I think it is only in the new technology fields that people might think of an .io. So if your field/tool is something else, I would not worry at all. Even if it is in .tech, by owning the .com you are in the driver's seat I would think.

I think it should be taken seriously. If your name is brand name and it is a service industry, then it is very likely that .io will win because Millennials focus on content rather than name. If your domain name is a dictionary domain name and you have a real product, then there is no doubt that .com is the real winner.

Yes so it would be a software/tool.. so something like dictionary.com vs dictionary.io

If you think that having .com make you better then you are wrong.

Make sure to offer more better services then yours competitor. Do lots of SEO, Do Better Marketing & out number your .io competitor.
