Registered a domain name with them free of course, was going to pay. This is what happend. It turns out the domain I registered ( after all my research) had a fair amount of traffic. Yes . So within 48 hours ( I had about a couple of hours to test traffic) the domain was deleted from my account and guess what the name is registered as paid and the registrant is Freenom, and guess what again the domain name is parked at rookmedia collecting cash.

I'm pissed off cause I researched to capture this type-in traffic. What sneaky thieving bastards

Hey Marly

I know what you mean mate, this happened to a few of my domains as well with them BUT after doing some research I discovered that basically when you register a free name with them, it doesn't belong to you, so basically if someone wants the domain and is going to pay for it then they would get preference and the domain will be removed from your account to their account. I think that's how it works or at least that's my understand of how FreeNom works...

Yes they are, and they are even worse. I registered few .ga and .ml domains (I paid for them) back then at some registrar, and few weeks and even months later Freenom demanded "premium" fees for all my domains registered through my registrar. I rejected, and Freenom took all my domains away, despite some were registered and paid for few months already.

You should have read the TOS and checked them out on Google. You'd see that they have a habit of this.

@ deez007, yeah, someone was will to pay for it with-in 48 hours and the entity that paid for it was Freenom as the registrant in the whois. I practically gave them money.

@ kriss05, that is terrible how they can do that to you. Exhaustionist

They sure have shady practices.

I wasn't aware of all these problems with Freenom. Sorry to hear about the problems, but this would be one reason you want to be careful when any registrar is offering a "free" domain. Next time register your other ccTLDs with someone else.

Thanks for the info. Better to pay and register domains at good registrars.

In my case I did pay for my registrations, and few weeks and months (depending on domain) later was asked by Freenom to pay extra for them. Unethical business as it is. Reminds me .OOO Registry which took few domains away from the owner 9 month after registration, but it is even worse than Freenom scam.

Honestly if you have legal rights to the domain i.e paid for it...You have the right to sue them for malicious intent.

I'm currently waiting on a response from Freenom's support about my domains.

I've had domains registered with them for years, and use to boast about them offering free domains and affordable prices. Most recently over the past year, I've come to learn how horrible their support is - I think someone could honestly write a bot that does a better job than their canned responses that are irrelevant, or just untimely - I couldn't imagine someone on a production server waiting 3-7 days for a response about why they decided to screw up their domain name.

Recently I've had a couple of domains marked as "suspended" and when I asked about them they gave me a canned response saying it could be one of several reasons -- none of which were applicable to my sites. They seem to be unable to give me an exact or actual reason as to why my domains were suspended.

Another huge issue I just noticed today was that one of my domains I've had for 7 years with them simply doesn't exist in my dashboard anymore. This is highly alerting, and ridiculously frustrating that it almost makes me want to throw some money to have an international call with them, although I doubt much would come from it. It makes me question their service, ethics, and possibly wonder if their employees are getting away with doing things like this to make some additional profit on the side?

The most frustrating part is that these domains that have had years of SEO, reputation, and authority worked into them are now simply gone and taken from me without any form of contact or warning, and now they're actually being abused against their TOS -- both sites are leveraging the SEO value that these sites had to now squat and forward traffic to other sites.

I'm not sure that I could take legal action against them, but I would love to. If I had any proof of loss of revenue from these actions I'm sure I would have a case, but unfortunately, I do not have such proof. SEO value is arbitrary w/o numbers and an income stream to back it.

Freenom is not Scam rather they are the one who provide domains at very cheap rate. Till now I have not found other registrar who register domains cheaper than freenom. They also provide domain privacy at free of cost...........

I have never used their services, but my understanding is that if you use a free domain with them it is by their TOS for a limited time (renewable but at their option). They don't let you keep it if it is not popular (since they are making no link dollars) or because it is too popular (and they want to sell it for a price). I never wanted to invest effort into something I would lose. Of course you can pay and convert it to a regular name that you actually own, but have to do it before they take it away from you.

If you do use their paid plan for a name, however, I think it is like other registrars. But I have no direct experience.

I recommend to people I talk to that they stay away from the free domains, which are the worst in the world for spam, according to Spamhaus worst 5 TLDs. Currently worst 5 are 'free' country code extensions, badness scores of 9+!

I have a ton of "free domains" that were suspended. So I can't defend them on free domains. As far as paid domains, Freenom is a good registrar. I have a couple of domain names with them. Never any issues.

Hey,

Just had a very bad experience with FREENOM.
I tried to register (3-letter).net domain for $6.98USD. This is for sure not free like .tk
They get my money, register the domain. I was even able to see it on my account.
But than they cancel it from my account in next 5 min without explanation.
I believe that it was theft as the domain was 3-letters long.
They support didn't answers on my calls and ticket at all.
The only response I get on the 3rd day:
I say them, that will claim this fraud to police, but answer was - we will send you money back...
It even not happen. Let's see if they stealing money as well as domains.
Never use this "company" as they confirmed scammers.

Obviously this is a bug. There are no LLL.net free to register, so even though it may have been listed in your account for a short while you never actually owned it.
