I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

if it didn't show in whois, the only thing I can think was that it was a temporary glitch of whois. If you're doing too many whois lookups too fast, whois will sometimes return nothing. But I know when I checked whois, star listed the usual info.

Look back in the replies, it wasn't just me having trouble when Star.ca first appeared.

It was 100% not resolving in WHOIS and would give a cannot register error, similar to the provincial ones.

at cira they all come up -already registered, except star,it comes up -something went wrong please try again later.:sneaky:

The whois on star.ca is resolving now to MyID.
Archive.org shows a pre-existing website for Star Records in Montreal since 2010 at least. They have Mado!!
I don't know what it will go for.

Hm. ok, that is def weird then. Here's some data I captured from whois - which all looked very normal to me, including the statuses, dates, etc... The actual time between expiry and drop date varies between registrars, so 2019-02-01 expiry date is within the normal variance:

Domain Name: star.ca
Creation Date: 2000-10-30T22:14:50Z
Registry Expiry Date: 2019-02-01
Registrar: A.R.C. Informatique Inc.
Registrant Name: Les Disques Star Inc.
Domain Status: pendingDelete
Domain Status: serverHold
Domain Status: serverRenewProhibited
Domain Status: serverTransferProhibited
Domain Status: serverUpdateProhibited
Name Server: ns1.vmsol.com
Name Server: ns2.vmsol.com

Also note that I discovered star.ca in the drop list last week, maybe it was friday? When I did, the first thing I checked was to see if any provincial extensions were reg'd. There were none at the time. I also don't see any evidence of past provincial extension usage, nothing in archive.org, no star.XX.ca ever dropped in TBR before, etc... So with regards to the provincial extension, I suspect you made the YT vs YK mistake. As for the disappearing/re-appearing whois info, I can't really explain that...

But if you want to go down the conspiracy theory path - maybe an employee at CIRA thought about removing it from the TBR (by marking it as restricted) in hopes of scooping it up at a later date on an irregular release of domains (which CIRA has been known to do). But then maybe they thought better (or got caught) and put it back? That's about the only explanation I can come up with...

I should have looked deeper into it, but once I started getting WHOIS errors, and others confirmed it, I automatically thought it was yet another restricted domain that has snuck into the TBR.

Shows you how much confidence I have in Fury.

Or maybe the Registrar was trying to scoop it themselves, and the CIRA finally got ahold of it?

And you're probably right about the YK/YT thing as I always check the Territories last, and with YK/NT, I could have easily mixed up the T and K.

How hard can it be to prune the list automagically

Its friggen easy. In like 15 minutes of time, I listed all of their .CA domains listed for sale, and then confirmed which were registered vs available.
It was a rhetorical question but preach on!

Or maybe the former owner realized they lost the domain, begged for someone at CIRA to help them out and maybe they briefly considered doing that too - but then realized too many of us were already watching star.ca in the drop to get away with it.

I knew it was rhetorical :) I just wanted to underscore the point with some data.
Thanks for making it clear for the other half.

I've done it more times than I care to admit too. :)

If you really want to go down the conspiracy path - it's at MYID. I'm just waiting for another auction extension so the conspirator can ask their parents for more money.

I know this has been asked before, but who in the hell is:

2537244 ONTARIO INC.

The UPS address (at 34 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto, ON M4R 2H6) is soooo familiar and I can remember looking these up before and finding an name like Fahzul or Fazzri or similar - is that POOL?

I haven't read through this whole thread, but does anyone see any value in the .ca extension? For instance I just hand registered two .ca domains which I think have decent potential:

ButterCream.ca
Satchel.ca

well... like for most extensions (but not all) if you have the right keyword.. then .ca can be a good idea... and profit.

however, imo handregging .ca names.. unless its some good freshly expired handreg (not very common)... is just too much a gamble... imo

These were acquired through expireddomains.net, however I am not sure how long they had been sitting there for.

If I recall from the past, it is Pool. I could be mistaken though. They don’t catch as much as they use to. I believe it was malls.ca they caught at one point which went for 5 figures if I remember correctly. Last time I checked, it’s still parked.

I'm 99.99% sure its not pool. Pool hasn't caught a single domain since the fury switch.

Could it be Sibername?

There is definitely something up about this entity, and I can remember speaking with the CIRA last year about a few things, and then casually mentioning this Registrar (and how they used to be listed on the CIRA page and later deleted), why there was no Phone or Email contact info, and if they had any idea who they were.

Suddenly the guy on the phone went silent, then got angry and told me "you don't need to know who they are" and there was a "good reason they were no longer on the CIRA Registrars page". I asked again why there was no Phone or Email contact info and he said "If you've registered domains through them, you'd know"

Okay.... Really weird stuff.

You can see they used to be on the CIRA page by searching Google.
