Are we missing something out in terms of extension here?

A .ro doing that big a sale.
What is the catch?

Sounds reasonable, a lot of these countries with these "crappy" extensions that no one has heard about have a lot of money flowing in their economies. We are going to see a lot more of these high price ccTLD sales as countries develop and value domain names.

I think there is a company going after all casino names, irrespective of the extension

.ro is very popular in Romania. There is a real local market. It's not like those oddball TLDs à la .cc .tk or .io.

..

'Casino' is an international word and so it works well with most cctlds.

More thoughts on this sale?
Doesn't it look odd to you?

Still. Doesn't make much sense to me!

.ro stands for Romania.

Right now I think there are more than 16 million .ro domains registered. So not really a crappy tld.

By doing a simple research we learn that casino.ro was purchased by Blexr Limited, a company with offices in Malta and Barcelona, Spain.

I did not mean "crappy" in a negative way but from some people's perspective who couldn't even recognise it. I understand that there will be a lot more of these sales as people use their local extensions a lot.

Romania has a population of 20 million and according to the IMF, they have one of the highest growth rates in the EU (also because they are and used to be a relatively poor country).

But I agree. 253k is a crazy high amount, especially if compared with previous.ro sales. Still, it’s obvious that the investor(s) have deep pockets and believes in the name and product.

It will be interesting to see what kind of website and brand this will result in, if any...
