so I made a $1 bid on auction ... when the bidding was already up to $50...

and all this because I have few people on my ignore list and do not see their bids...

and the "show ignored content" link can be easy to miss... especially when you have 50 windows open in your computer.

that being said.. I asked many times here before to disable the ignore list as soon as we enter the forsale forums... but my suggetion was not implemented... is it because its so hard to do? or because it is not considered a priority? which I think it should be. @Support Team

It's something we need to implement, but we also don't want to encourage the use of the Ignore feature. It's intended to be used as a last resort.

We will likely implement it around the same time that we implement ignoring threads, so that there is a better solution available rather than ignoring members.

really? so if someone decides they do not want to read someone else anywhere on np, for his own reasons whtever they may be.. you discourage this freedom of choice and call it last resort only? thats like forcing people to think and do only what you want them to do.. and not what they want to do themselves.

no offence but if you do not want members to use the ignore list then remove it. otherwise, let them use it freely and as they see fit. and not as you see fit (by calling it a last resort). I don't think anyone on here will appreciate being told what should constitute last resort to them and what should not. thanks, cheers.

I think the reason they justifiably (or at least in my opinion .. lol) discourage it is because it leads to thread confusion .. perfectly illustrated by your example in the auctions threads.

But with discussion threads it can really change a discussion considerably .. and definitely cause confusion in cases.

I think the reason they turned on the feature is indeed to give you the choice ... but there's no denying it makes things more confusing overall.

I'm pretty sure they were saying that the reason they want to discourage it has nothing to do with the confusions it may create. as per example I gave of my case. :)

actually I have zero issus or problems with my ignore list, when comes to following threads etc... it does nothing to discussion flow.. if not to improve it because then I only read views from people whom I wanna read views from...

I only mentioned this for forsale threads. where indeed it is a major issue.

cheers.

What if any person and their content that may be on ignore you make their content highlighted in let's say light yellow. Anytime you are reading a thread the content will be there but you can choose to ignore or read if you so choose. This way all content would show up in the thread and there will be no confusion.

hmmm... u mean basically the equivalent of not havign an ignore list at all, except the ignored content would be different color? well... I appreciate this thought and idea but this should be imo about more thna just colors...

its like wanting a divorce from your wife and get away from her... cause u don't wanna see her no more... so in your example, it would be like still keeping her in your house and living with her except you'd paint her yellow.... I don't think that'd work.

Excessive use of the Ignore list causes many problems, many of which you do not have to deal with but we do.

Most uses of the Ignore feature are the result of members not wanting to see particular threads, and using the nuclear option of ignoring every thread by that thread creator is not the best solution. The best solution is being able to ignore a particular thread.

As a result, the feature is postponed until ignoring threads is available.

That depends on how much paint you used! ;) lol

okay.. I understand.

but for me and possibly many others members too.. not using the ignore list causes also many problems... many of which you do not have to deal with but we do.

I don't ignore anyone so I was just giving an idea. My idea is to ignore the things that you want but still be able to read it (if you want to) so a thread doesn't get confusing. Ignoring people just seems childish to me.

yes I know you were giving opinion. which is why I politely thanked you for it.

I only ignore people who seem childish to me.

Like those who paint their wives yellow? lol

I actually don't think I've hidden anyone either .. so not 100% sure how it work .. but seems to be a good middle ground would be a small collapsed bar the width of a post, but only 0.5cm tall (just enough to know it's there). Just have it be very dull grey (or at least not Yellow for Alcy's sake .. lol) with almost illegible "Hidden Content - Click here to reveal"!

That way people would know there were bids in auctions (or bumps until they get my bump button .. lol) .. and in regular discussions it would be rather discrete and not take up much room .. but still be available to see in cases where a conversation doesn't make sense because someone was referring to a hidden post.

or maybe white on white? like so:

"Nel suo profondo vidi che s’interna
legato con amore in un volume,
ciò che per l’universo si squaderna:

sustanze e accidenti e lor costume,
quasi conflati insieme, per tal modo
che ciò ch’i’ dico è un semplice lume.

La forma universal di questo nodo
credo ch’i’ vidi, perché più di largo,
dicendo questo, mi sento ch’i’ godo

Think more of something like this in between two posts running the entire width of a standard post box.

Note that nothing else would show unless expanded .. including profile pic, profile data, nor the trailing thread info. The width would include the profile area .. it would only show if you clicked the bar ...

------------------------------------------------------ Hidden Content + Click here to reveal ------------------------------------------------------

That's basically what I was saying but instead of color the box works better. It's just so you know there is content there and you decide if you want to see it or not.

I know what you're trying to say .. but like this it's actually almost truly hidden, you don't see your "ex's" face (profile pic) nor her content .. your way it's more highlighted (or "painted" as Alcy would say .. lol).

My way it's more that you flattened her (or him) in a trash compactor ... lol

I agree. I also prefer your way.

your way is like... the ex is still in your house... but... she has a lot of duck tape around her mouth... and is wearing the harry potter invisibilty cloak... but also is blindfolded so she cannot see wht you do... and her hands are tied so she cannot remove the blindfold... there is also preferably chains on her legs so she cannot move.

its possible I am forgetting something else. but that's the basic idea.

therefore I think what you said about just a informational header saying there is hidden post, for every hidden post, would be better than the current hidden content display link.

What is status on this one?

I'm thinking to block entire epik staff, except on 'Domain Coupons and Offers' and 'Reviews' threads.

Would be nice if Ategy suggestion gets implemented.

We're not ignoring you. We've been working on a lot of backend updates recently that will allow us to pick up the pace on features like this one. It's been a lot of work, but we're getting there! I know it doesn't look like much has changed, but these backend updates took a long time and were quite important. They're what will allow us to add many features that have been requested.

I was thinking minimized and red since reading hooks response, great minds. :xf.grin:
Wouldn't you be enticed to reveal that content though, lol

i agree @alcy, i think even if you are ignoring someone, you should still be able to see the current bid on an auction regardless. ty. :)
