I noticed this morning that NameSilo has a brand new website. There is a link at the top of the page to try out the new website.

It looks nice in my opinion. Hope it is as fast as the old one. I really liked how fast the site was.

Let's give @namesilo our impressions.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I disapprove of the new design. The bulk search especially is much worst. The current color coded horizontal results output is best. An improvement would be to allow sorting of the output and also to prevent manually selected tlds from timing out. But instead there is a redesign that will not meet my needs.

Another big issue with the redesign is the web design practice of "white space / negative space" that has taken over the internet. It has gotten so ridiculous that on many sites / pages all the information actually presented could fit into less than 10% of the actual page volume displayed and it looks like this new NS homepage follows this horrible trend. Flippa just also did this. Atrocious web design IMHO.

In addition I see sites misuse the negative space by combining small font size with it - which is what NS has also done. Has NS taken into consideration users that have issues with eyesight?

It really comes across like the uncool kid trying to be cool by copying a trend that should be on the tail end of being played out. Namesilo needs to take the lead by being original and producing a redesign that combines a professional appearance with maximum end user utility. Of course, easier said than done - which is why there is so much awful web design out there.

Negative space should be used like pepper with a meal. With so much negative space the pepper becomes the meal.

If it ain't broken, why fix it?

Because they listened to a couple complainers instead of asking any of their biggest users. They say they are keeping the old design available. I have never seen a website do that longer than a year, so I hope they are the exception.

I am not seeing the link to the beta version at all. Where is it?

Much much better really. @namesilo just move the go back top to the right, I see no need to have it on the right when the scroller is at the right :) , I see no changes with the control panel.

@namesilo, please, maybe instead of a new design you just add style.css for mobiles and tablets?
Really it is very horrible now and if before I used namesilo bulk search for searching aviable domains, now I use another sites or soft. We all liked namesilo old design, please just create additional style.css for mobile layout and stop damage your website

I have done a domain search for the first time in new platform. I checked "all extensions", and I can see my search only in about dozen stupid extensions (.blackfriday, .fun, .clothing, .store...). There's no .com on the list! I tried several times, and no luck, unless I select it in filter on the left side. But when I do it, then only .com remains in the list, and all others are gone. So I'm expected either to set favourites (which is not convenient, as sometimes I search for some specific extensions), either to check or uncheck dozens of extensions in this list.

Though, I see dozens of "Domain suggestions" and "Premium domains" below. I might be blind or doing something wrong, but there is no easily visible button to show ALL EXTENSIONS, as it was case in old site, and no easily visible switch to shut down suggestions and premium domains.

This is really annoying! I want to see domain I searched for, and I want to see all extensions, as I checked. I don't want to see THEIR choice of extensions (obviously the most popular ones at the moment, blackfriday/store hype, etc.), and I don't want to see triple more their suggestions and premium domains than domain I searched for.

This way they're telling me I'm stupid enough to not know what I'm searching for, so they limit my search to 14 extensions, and show me hundred of their suggestions and premium domains!

I want to be in control of my search. Regardless of how much I love Namesilo, if they insist to be in control of my search, I'm afraid it will be bye bye...

I do not like the new site and keep hitting the revert to old site tab. That and how they don’t provide instant transfers when you decide to leave (like many of their competitors do) has got me moving names out and registering elsewhere.

Probably .com is not a money maker for them since they sell it for 6.99. I think they make the most margin off the other extensions. The whole redesign makes me think they want to get the masses in - get the herd in - because they aren't making money on just domainer business.

Well, I'm afraid it resembles me to NameCheap some 3 or 4 years ago: I had majority of my domains with them; they redesigned the site, despite numerous complaints of customers; new dashboard was unbearable, and that's when I flew over at NameSilo, and loved it over course of these several years. I hope it will not repeat with them now...

I mean, just compare search results from my screenhot above with this one from old site: here I can see main extensions in a glance, and with another mouse click get all other extensions in a list...

They actually have instant transfers. All your transfers are under the transfer menu, and you just have to hit approve button for all transfer outs and that's it.

Not exactly stunningly beautiful design, but hey, it works and they have the best features in the business in my opinion.

Everything can be better and design is a personal taste. On mobile they are still running the old site.

At least they can easily revert back to their old if need be, the new one they've placed onto a subdomain. I'm sure NS will take all feedback into serious consideration..
Google's "mobile first" policy and new rankings system means that they probably won't roll back.

Did anyone notice that Namesilo offers users a free marketplace site? And that you can include your domains at other registrars?

I didn't know.

I watched the how to video on their site. Looks good. And free.
I concur that their service is really good.

@namesilo Are you going to transition entirely to the new website design anytime soon? To be honest I think it looks like a mess and has for a long time. Some pages are the old design, others the new design.

The new design - like it is now - should have never went live. It is not well balanced both in visual/colors sense and in aspects of navigation. It is unfortunate that transfers page and the home page are "new" already.

  • The sidebar remains visible by scrolling at a speed relative to the page’s height.
