1. Google the word, phrase or term you are about to register and see how it is used on other English language sites.

2. Use an online English dictionary.

3. Think of the word order if it is a 2 word domain name.

4. Ask some friends or family members who are good at English.

5. If it is a slang term then try to find examples on how it is used. Try the Urban Dictionary.

6. Make sure it doesn't sound totally ridiculous to a customer if you intend to sell it.

I speak a few languages myself and need to check my English sometimes too. It's easy to make a mistake. Double check always if you are using several languages each day.

As you've identified, if you're not a fluent speaker then it can be difficult.

I think you've got a collection of good tips there for registering good English domains.

I really think that asking someone who speaks English is most important.

I'd suggest confiding in someone who speaks fluent English who you can be honest with... If you can tell them that you're intending on registering a domain with certain text, then they can tell you if it makes sense or not. Not everyone is a domainer, infact most people aren't. So I'd say 100% confide in a non-domainer English speaker.

I'd also suggest taking anything written on urban dictionary with a pinch of salt (with caution) often it's not common parlance (not commonly used in English) because the entries on there are intended to shock or make a joke specific to the text.

Yes the Urban Dictionary might be a long leap for some people. At the same time it might deter the registering of a name that will not go well with buyers.

I saw a domain name on an auction today named tutoralert .com and I thought

List of tutors you don't want anywhere near your children.
