can Non Chinese non Gov domainer from USA reg .gov.cn domains?

this should have been self explanatory but looking it up on google and finding just one website Nominate.com allowing you to reg it for $1000+ for the year plus $40+ renewals.

but there is no mention if you have to be chinese or work for the Chinese Gov to reg it?

just curious.:xf.wink:

As I understand, .gov.cn domains are used by government-related entities. I vaguely remember that last year there was even a government directive instructing all government-related entities to standardize on gov.cn instead of using .com and other extensions. IMHO, .com domains are the safest way to invest in China because (1) it's king also in China, and (2) it's not subject to government control like country extensions. Before investing in .cn, make sure you read the history of .cn and remember what happened to domain investors in 2010 when the rule on .cn registration suddenly changed.

Got it. Thanks. Only reason I asked was because I saw on ExpiredDomains.net a bunch of .Gov.cn domains expire and some had a ridiculous amount of backlinks and Alexa Rank.

I'm sure most were probably fake.

But just go on ExpiredDomains.net and check for yourself. Filter for just .gov.cn expired domains.

That said I'd rather not

Would have been nice to funnel that traffic to a private blog network or a China centric website.

Thanks. How are you Kassey?

While I have you here.

What do you think of "Greater Bay" as a keyword? any value to it as a geo domain?

Pretty huge. I posted about it on here in a different thread. I did not see you chime in on there. Probably didn't see it?

GreaterBay.com is owned by Wells Fargo. But it's more a reference to the fact one of the banks it swallowed up was in the Greaterbay area of San Francisco.

Greater Bay Area is the 4th bay area after the one in NY, San Francisco, and Tokyo according to what I read, but "The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area expects to be the largest economy among global bay areas by 2020" (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/201806/07/WS5b18ca85a31001b82571eb22.html). Its economy compared with other countries will rank very top (No 11 if my memory is correct) so the term GreaterBayArea.com has value but it's already registered back in 2011 (available for acquisition, though).

if someone is going to pay big bucks. I bet they'd want GreaterBay.com it's a category killer. besides. Wells Fargo isn't using it.

just sitting on a Godaddy parking page not making money. If someone were smart with decent money they could buy it on stealth mode. I bet you Wells Fargo probably doesn't even know what they've got in their hands. i bet if you offered $100K they'd sell it thinking they stole your money.. not cheap but compared to China buying it down the road?

Same thing as ManhattanWest.com owned by the RedCross.org.

That's a gold mine especially with all the recent developments on the westside of NYC called "Manhattan West".
