Decibel // dot // co

Bought: $17
Sold: $1000
Flip Time: Slightly under 2 years

A few people have been bugging me to post some sales. I'm actually in the middle of another $xxxx .co sale at Sedo, so I got inspired to report this one from last year. I've been so busy with NameCult and blogging my daily lists that I've been a little backlogged on everything else. I'll try to post a few more sooner than later.

FYI .. I've had varying numbers domains nearly 20 years .. but always with primary intent to develop. What actually started my shift to "domaining" was actually a little rush of really solid .co coming to expiration auctions at GoDaddy (Over the years I always scanned GD auctions off and on, very occasionally buying one or two domains here and there).

I sold this one right around time I had my flood last Summer.

Decibel was actually a domain that appealed to me because of my (long ago) background in DJing and having a rather large DJ / Club Music community many years ago. I actually picked this one up at GD actions (pretty sure expired) at $17 (one other bidder).

It's important to note that I held this almost 2 years so you also need to factor in the ~$25 renewal which total more than I actually paid for the domain in the first place! lol

Within a few months of buying it I had a potential buyer I exchanged a few emails with. Ironically he eventually got as high as $1000, but I was still new and was holding out for more. In the end it was clear that was his final budget so I said no.

About a month before the final transaction negotiations, I had another incoming request with an opening offer of $300. I counted at $3000, they recountered at $500 indicating it was their final offer. I countered once again at $1100 saying I had previously received higher offers than theirs.

06/11/18 - Your Desired Price:
06/11/18 - Buyer's Offer: 300 USD
06/15/18 - Your Counter Offer: 3,000 USD
06/27/18 - Buyer's Offer: 500 USD (Final offer)
07/06/18 - Your Counter Offer: 1,100 USD

A couple weeks later I got another opening offer. Like the previous one, the potential buyer was shown to be based in the USA. I was pretty sure it was the same buyer trying again so I didn't bother playing games and simply continued negotiations where they left off and held my very reasonable line at $1000. I recall this negotiation also being drawn out, but looks like it all took place in a single day. I was living with flood damage so was rather motivated to sell before the imminent renewal .. lol). Here's the negotiation timeline:

07/17/18 - Your Desired Price: Make Offer
07/17/18 - Buyer's Offer: 250 USD
07/17/18 - Your Counter Offer: 1,099 USD
07/17/18 - Buyer's Offer: 350 USD
07/17/18 - Your Counter Offer: 1,099 USD - I have previously received higher offers.
07/17/18 - Buyer's Offer: 500 USD - This is my final offer.
07/17/18 - Your Counter Offer:1,000 USD
Hi .. thanks for your interest in this domain. Last year I received higher offers. The domain renews in 3 days at GoDaddy, after which I'll likely be transferring it, so if you need this domain quickly, I encourage you to complete the sale ASAP. Considering the previous offers I'm not really prepared to go below $1000 (already a bit lower after Sedo's commission). Thanks and best wishes either way! :)

07/17/18 - Buyer confirmed:1,000 USD

The buyer paid the same day and the transaction was pretty standard after that.

While I was originally hoping for a bit more, I came to realise while this was a really good one word .co domain in my mind, I felt that it might be a while before I find anyone willing to go more than $1k .. combine that with the chaos of my flood and I was fine closing the page on this one.

Hope some of you got something out of this report.

Here are some of the previous sales I've reported:

- Freeceive
- Longevica
- Rewired
- Bookworm

Thanks so much for the detail re the inquiries and offers. I like the name a lot - it would be perfect for a site on noise pollution / hearing problems, but also ideal for sound level apps, sound insulation professionals, etc. The inventor of the telephone would I am sure be happy that a scientific term that contains part of his name sold!

Congratulations on sale and thanks for details.

Nice of you to share all the conversation. Definitely one for the mobile DJ or music club. I'm not a lover of the .co extension but I can't deny all the reported sales that are showing-up
