Hello Everyone!

I'm new to this forum, and am really interested in and excited about domain investing. Hope to get to learn a lot more and discuss with you guys through this forum!

I also thought it would be really helpful to connect domain buyers and sellers through social media, as well as promote domains that businesses and individuals are buying and/or selling, so I started an Instagram specifically for this: @rcdomaininvestor

Hope I can help the domainer community out! Really looking forward to meeting you guys and reading your responses, suggestions and comments, and hope to be a proactive member in the domainer forums community :)

Hello @chapoteaur .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

I never got on Instagram myself. You'll find soon enough that NamePros effectively is the social media for domains! lol

What has your experience with domains been like so far? Have you started buying and selling?

Best of luck to you going forward! :)

Thank you Ategy! Nice to meet you :)

So far, I have been reading a lot about domaining, have not invested yet. I'm thinking about buying soon, giving myself $300 to start with, allocating $100 to expired/deleted domains, $50 for auctions, $50 for my ideas (the domain names I think of), $25 for TLDs other than .com, and $75 for backup. Hoping to take action and gain experience doing this very soon!

Do you have any advice or suggestions on how I should start, some good resources, and which parts of the forum you would recommend to buy and sell my first domain?

Thank you again, and hope to hear from you soon! :)

Honestly .. that's a pretty good plan you have going there ... will let you sample a bit of everything without getting too far out of hand. Any real comment is that $50 won't get you very far in auctions, I'd allocate most of the remaining $75 there.

If you take your time, you can find some gems at GoDaddy closeouts. Again though .. the key is not to rush .. domaining is actually a pretty steep learning curve and a lot of new comers buy too much garbage before figuring out even the basics. Definitely look around the forum for information and insight. Check out the various blogs (links to mine and my lists are in my signature) and podcasts (Domain Sherpa and DNW are the two biggest .. I suggest going back a few years and start listening .. that's what I did when I started).

While buying domain in the forums isn't that bad, unless you get very good at buying even below wholesale value, your goal should NOT be to resell in the forums. As unless you are extremely skilled at buying below wholesale, there is no point. People in domainer forums are almost exclusively domainers who themselves want wholesale pricing. Focusing on selling in forums will never give you a high enough profit margin to be profitable overall. Selling in the forum is basically for when you've given up on a domain .. or if you want to trim your portfolio but are still making end user sales.

Anyhow .. best of luck once again! :)

Thank you very much for sharing your experience and giving valuable advice! I definitely will listen to the podcasts and take more of a look around in the forums to build a solid foundation of the basics, which can give me more confidence and a better understanding of domain investing.

Thank you very much again Ategy! :)

Welcome @chapoteaur - glad to have you at NamePros. You've gotten some excellent pointers from @Ategy.com, and I have one more to add: Don't expect instant results, as domaining is a slow process. It's about buying good domains and building a solid portfolio.
Wishing you great results!
