If you follow Mike Mann on social media, you may have been surprised to learn that he has officially declared himself the Domain King👑 of the industry. This is a title held/registered by Rick Schwartz. Mr. Mann even went so far as to call out Schwartz' TM on the term Domain King proclaiming the title always belonged to himself. IMO, Mike Mann is the Domain King of the short hold. Whereas, Rick Schwartz is the king of the long hold...

Do you believe Rick Schwartz or Mike Mann is the real Domain King👑? If so, why or why not?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
My decision on this is based on where I'd rather be...

1. Sitting on millions from domains regged back in the 90's (still owning millions worth of these too)

or

2. Having a multi million pound business model buying & selling thousands of domains.

I'd be happy with either one of these to be honest and hats off to both Mike and Rick, but isn't it every domainers dream to get a time machine, go back in time and do what Rick did?!

For that reason, Rick is the king of kings and has my vote. However what Mike does is different, it's a very successful business. My favourite @Mike Mann sale was Agricool - how he knew or maybe didn't know that they were getting a large injection of funding we'll never know.

Rick Shwartz owns domainking.com so everytime Mann mentions domain king he is advertising Shwartz so Rick won't care. There is no vote it is called intellectual property domainers should be aware first is first.

Neither really contribute just blog and the worshoppers take it as gospel they are out for themselves and there is nothing wrong with that. Many comments made are misquoted or taken out of context. Dunno how many times I have read quotes from Mann when others say was by Shwartz or even Bill Gates. Get enough history yourself and make your own predictions as this is a business of speculation. Only insights of value are everyones previous sales.

Rick Schwartz do contribute and advocates for a sound Sniper approach. Mike Mann's approach goes by registering two hundred eighty thousand domain names. And I bet barley breaks even but in this world of BS a lot is sustainable when you can get other people to believe in your gospel.

This Includes tech stocks with insane p/e ratios and vaulations. Just my 3cents worth.

Actually, he gives nothing back, it is exactly as @lock said above.
Rick Schwartz blogs to protect his own ASSets by criticizing anything that is not .com.

Is he right?

To a degree.... probably, but he mainly blogs to keep up a profile and remind everyone that .com is king. Should by some small chance another extension come to the forefront it would decimate his portfolio so he has no choice but to keep telling everyone that everything else sucks.

Again.... is wrong?

HeHe..... to a degree... probably not :xf.laugh::xf.laugh::xf.laugh:

With all respect to both Rick & Mann ,either of them aren't Domain King !
The domain king is named not naming himself.

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert... near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal these words appear:
'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

- Percy Bysshe Shelley

Peace,
Kenny

IMO, I applaud both men for getting into the domain game at the very start. But I think once you hit that goldmine...You have to do more than buy or sell a nice name(that's expected because you have millions already). From there you can afford every name...so i don't get carried away with the names they buy or sell. The everyday domainer cannot relate to that. It doesn't give any real view on the reality of the current domain market. It comes down to what else they have accomplished. Are you sitting somewhere resting on the laurels of what you did in 1999 or are you doing new innovative things for domainers and others alike? I am assuming one of those guys own Uniregistry right? I will check out what else they do?

I respect both men though(they are legends to have the vision from start early).... however I think what would really inspire the domain world is to see average everyday people start from nothing or with little and rise up. At this point, those are the stories that inspire me. Because those stories prove that, even though you missed the glory days of domaining, you still can make it.

Well said
The one who took the time as opportunity is a king
I like Mike Mann as he is fearless, courageous and daring.

Fueding over a self proclaimed title like this is just plain childish. Like the 2 men that first made it to the summit of Mt Everest, it was done together but later on there was a dispute whos foot touched the peak first.

It was Tenzing Norgay! He tied the rope on the tip of the mountaintop so old Sir Edmund Hillary could get up there.

That was just a day in the part for Tenzing. "He poured Hillary a cup of tea at the top." lol
