I'm fairly new at this, but having a great time - I registered some domains within the past month and I'm wondering if it is alright to list those domains for sale? Do buyers normally use the original domain name registrar, at least until the domain renewal date?

Thank you!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I've run into this problem a few times and I just try to make it clear that the domain has to be kept within a particular registrar or they would have to wait until X date for the transfer.

imo, you want to let people know its for sale as soon as possible.

Do buyers tend to dislike this or is it not a big deal?

They generally don't like it. If they're paying $x,xxx or more for something, they usually want it NOW

My last sale it wasn't a big deal because it was Godaddy > Godaddy. But I had a sale where the buyer got quite angry ... it went through eventually, but since then, I'm upfront about any transfer locks.

I have changed my personal approach on this somewhat. I used to only list during the first 60 days on registrar run marketplaces where the sale is permitted (since at those venues the transfer is done by push from one account to another), and then at the 60 day period list on general sites like Undeveloped, Afternic and Sedo. However, after many pros whose views I respect said they list immediately, I have started on Undeveloped listing them before 60 days, but with a statement re the restriction in a prominent place in description (see example below) and without a BIN so I can emphasize the point during negotiations prior to a sale. I also list for sale on my own website with same restrictions.
Bob

==== example statement ====

*** Note that this domain name is only available for push to new owner’s account at registrar Porkbun until April 7, 2019, after which general transfer to another registrar is allowed. The domain name can be used by the new owner in the meantime, but not moved to a new registrar. ***

These days you can ask your registrar to opt you out of the 60 days lock. I'm not sure of other registrars but you can pretty much do it yourself at Uniregistry

It's 50/50 deal, sometimes the buyer want names in his own favourite register, some buyers don't care about register & get the push of domain in same register.
