3 questions on buying from GoDaddy expired domain auction

Watch
Just started buying domains at the Godaddy expired domain auction.

1.
The new expiration date seems to be less than a year. I bought some domains last month and also this month and their expiration dates range from Oct to Dec 2019. So we essentially are paying for the overdue period of the previous owner, right?

2.
Godaddy always adds tax to the billing even though I have filled out the form indicating I'm non US resident. Any way to remove the tax component?

3.
I want billing be done in US$ for comparison purpose. Even though I've changed the payment and credit card pages to indicate US$ but they always revert back to US$ after I save the pages. Any help?

Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
1. Right now most seem to expire very early Jan. 2020, so a bit over one month out. October or even Nov. would seem unusual imo. Does it depend on losing registrar (if not GoDaddy)? I'm not sure.

2. Isn't the tax simply ICANN fee (?tax) and not sales tax? ($0.18, no exemption from that).

Thanks for the quick comment.

#1 My bad! I read the dates incorrectly and yes, all will expire in December 2019 for purchases in January.

You can clearly see the 15% tax despite the fact that I have already filled out the payment form indicating the non US resident status.

#3 The currency issue seems to have gone now, after several days of futile attempt. Now the US$ currency unit seems to stick after my latest attempt this morning.

15% tax, ouch! I would suggest emailing [email protected] to have them look into that, if you haven't already.

It depends on your billing information (Government requirement, thus why the taxes differ from country to country, I do not believe Godaddy can change this, I pay 20%).

Suggest, you read the following

GoDaddy tax exempt customers

Maybe @Joe Styler can provide more details / clarify

Excellent links! Thanks. That solved the mystery. Yes, those living in NZ must pay that 15% consumption tax.

We only collect the taxes we need to and send them on to the respective governments. When you file your taxes you can show these receipts to your accountant and have them determine if you are eligible for a refund or not.
