discuss I tag-teamed with another domainer to sell a domain!

Let me tell you a quick story. Although we domainers often compete with each other, I would like to report a very pleasant interaction I had with another of our kind. I had dropped a domain a few years ago. Apparently, someone searching for the domain at Uniregistry found my old for sale page and purchased the domain (didn't know that could happen but it did). So, here I was paid for a domain I no longer had. Crap! Trying to salvage some kind of profit, I searched whois for the owner and found the person who had it was someone in the biz. I contacted him via e-mail, stated my case for a tag-team, and asked for $150 commission. In my mind, this was a win-win scenario. The domainer was cautious as you would expect but after we spoke by phone and sending him a letter promising to transfer the bulk of the sale, we had a deal. He gave me the transaction code and the sale was completed. I transferred his portion via PayPal three days later. I really appreciated the level of trust the domainer showed me.

You done good.

What % of the sales price did $150. represent?

Although, domainers do compete in auctions, we should not consider ourselves as competitors.

We should collectively unify to educate and promote domains to the general public and end users.

Working together will get us farther than working against each other.

The sale was just under $1,000 and Uni got 10% of the sale as commission. The domainer got around $700. It was a gamble because the buyer, if the Uni deal was cancelled, may have opted for another domain, not his. Plus, I believe he got the domain off the drop for close or at reg fee.

Nice win-win (y)

I had a sort of similar story happen to me when I was buyer

I bid on a name, it sold during the auction, and we ended up splitting the profit 50/50 (which was around $1k each)
