Apparently this was announced in December but I was not aware of this until I noticed an email in a Google mail account I only use occasionally. From the email....
On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted.
Now this does seem to be directed toward "consumer accounts" but there may be some businesses that may have inadvertently set up consumer accounts without realizing it. Undoubtedly there are many businesses that promote primarily through social media accounts rather than using a solid domain name. Admittedly this action is the result of Google failing to compete with other more popular platforms. But still it should be a reminder that being overly dependent on a platform can result in your content being wiped out.
