Brilliant thread

This thread will be as good as domain names sold thread over time as bigger offers get turned down as prices of domain names soar in value

Obviously those of us that have been around for a while are aware the major pitfall is Not knowing when to sell. It's not so much about amounts offered, as a terms relevance in the current market. You don't see it so much these days but, it was a common problem 10+ years ago of seeing sellers holding out for top of the market prices for words and terms that had really passed their Sell-by-date.

All well and good if your receiving regular offers..but,.Domainers are collectors by default. Now try getting any collector to part with his booty.. It's a very easy mistake to make, getting too attached to your domains. Made this mistake myself many a time in my early days, particularly when there probably was only one-or-two potential buyers in the first place

It depends the domain. I rejected a low offer via Undeveloped for refugee (.) io ($500 offer) and SubscribeButton (.) com ($100 offer) in the same platform. If i want to sell for reseller prices like above, i 'd set them for sale only on NP. If you want to get quality, you have to pay. Simple things.

A couple months back, turned down $1050 on studentsection // com. Although it was the highest offer to date on the name, it does receive a regular flow of offers.

They are some factors which have impact to accept or reject an offer.
  1. How much you need the money. (renewal fees wave must be counted everytime)
  2. How much are the offered money.
  3. How much you have paid to acquire the domain
  4. Your domain's quality.
  5. Your general selling strategy.
  6. If the domain have a regular flow of offer or not as @mattG said.
  7. The using platform fees have an effect too.
Each situation is unique and consider about it separately. You will think which are your priorities and take the final decision. Often, it's not an easy process as it seems at first glance.

Another rejection that i forgot was MultipleCopy (.) com ($500 was the initial offer)

Another 10k offer today. Same 4L domain I mentioned in my prior post I previously rejected 35k, agreed at 88k and had Chinese law firm flake in escrow.

Rejecting offer.

I have burn't many sales before tryin to bump the buyer up. I could say i turned down offers but the reality is the sale was burnt. I didn't accept first offer and some never will offer again plain and simple. Then again i have also bumped $100 into a few k.

So we were having couple of drinks with a friend of mine. He offered me $2 bn for google.com and I respectfully declined.

Of course, I don't own google.com, but he doesn't have $2 bn either, so all is fair and square.

Those that remember history, Google Inc was turned down for $750K [The Company & IP]. Page & Brin wanted out

The same month Rock.com sold for $1m. I would bet my last penny the common consensus was "Rock.com" is a super brand................ Google wouldn't have made a $10 dollar appraisal on this forum

Where is Google now and Where is Rock.com now

Sol Orwell made fantastic point domains are completely overrated by everybody in the domain industry and underrated by everybody else.

It's highly unlikely the next trillion dollar company will be built of a common consensus domain

Rejected $40000 offer on domain name which i purchased for $3200. Now regretting.

Year ago i received and accepted $25,000 offer on 2 word, 10 letters domain name which i purchased for $10000. Just few days after we agreed on price this American company was acquired by another company for few billions of dollars and my deal went on hold and canceled eventually. after 2 months. Very very bad timing i guess :(

Received $5000 offer on my $500 purchased. My best price was $7500. They never came back.

Rejected $500 offer on hand reg, nearly one year later they offered $1000 and then again after few weeks they increase it to $1500. Now it has been few months since their last offer yet, i believe i can sell it for that price but my asking price is $2250. I'm firm on it.

Hello Members,

This is an outstanding topic. Lets keep it that way.
We have had to spend way too much time cleaning this thread up.
Those of you that insist on taking it off topic can be assured of warning points from here on.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Peace,
Kenny

Just so I'm still on topic....
turned down a $2000 offer on a 7 letter domain related to the medical field.
Holding fast at mid to high 5 figures.

I also, took a $2000 offer for a eight letter two-word .com finance name this weekend.

The offer came from a large financial website publisher. Countered $4500 using Escrow. Buyer has inquired on other names to end up going radio silent. I let my ego get in the way. Oh well.

Great idea for a thread. I generally sell below what I believe to be a fair price - a very risky strategy. The idea was/is that greater inventory can replace what's sold but now the mine is nearly empty.

So I've just begun holding out, turned down $3,500 on F/i/n/a/n/c/e/I/n/c/./c/o/m/ .. I just think that one could do better.

On sedo, I turned down 1,500usd for a dot center domain days after that extension went public. Years later I regret it, because dot center didn't really appreciate in value as an extension. It's kind of a crap extension now. I'm not losing any sleep over it though. Not that much money after all.

UPDATE....I reached out to the prospect and I said we're close-let's try to find a price that works . He came back with a higher offer of $2250. I said yes.

I have turned down many offers in the last five years

Here are few

Singl.es - Rejected $10K USD offer last year
CannesRealty.com - It had two offers from Cannes Realtors. One was 7K euro and 500 usd but didn't take
EliteBenefits.com - Rejected $5K USD

but no regret for what I did. You won't get a top dollar if you don't ask!

True story.

Last week, I got a $13 offer for a 4L.com domain.

I told him 3K...and he told me to f*** off.

He then messaged me back a few min later and said he could do $18 but it was his FINAL offer....

:chicken:

that was fun.

I've been doing this less than a year but I've turned down a few (what would be) profitable offers. $2,500 for a canna name. Then another $3,500 for something else in the educational space. I don't regret rejecting the offers because I know the value of the names (at least I like to think I do ...) but sometimes, money is money.
