Namepros is a pretty diverse place, members from every continent except for Antarctica. Discussions take place about money where many see their opinion as fact. Examples:

That's not a lot of money

I don't get out of bed for less than $5,000

Anyone can afford to blow 100 .com regs in a year

People pronounce their desire to never sell to a domainer, or buy from one. People talk about how they don't flip names for a couple hundred dollars. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and free to do what they like.

But what does $1,000 tied up in domain names mean to you? Can you afford to lose it? Can you renew said $1,000 for 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? What about profiting $1,000 in a year?

Vote in the poll.

$1000 in my country is a good salary, I cannot afford to throw that kind of money away on a domain for example.
Just as an example, my monthly paycheck is at around $1200

That is why I am saying that if I sell a domain for $1k, I am pretty happy with it.

$1000 in profit isn't a big deal,
$1000 in loss indeed is!

This subject has more to do with appreciation and intelligence than it has to do with how much money you have.

What does $1,000 mean to you?
Everyyy amount of moneyyy means something to me.
The higher the amount, the higher the meaning - it is always a constant (parallel) shift of amount / meaning.
So 1,000.00 USD are meaning exactlyyy 1000 times more to me than 1.00 USD means to me.

This is huge gap between poverty rich.
  1. It's Tip money, nothing to me at all = (rich)
  2. If I profit $1,000 changes little and I could afford to lose it = (rich)
  3. $1,000 is more than I make a month at my job = (poverty)
  4. $1,000 is a good deal of money to me = (anyone)
  5. $1,000 profit would change my life greatly, I could never risk that much in purchases = (If you haven't outlayed $1000 your probably not here but $1000 effects any business.)
Kinda leave no place for Average.

$1000 is a great deal of money to me.. but at the same time I could afford to lose it :)

It depends on the name for me. If the profit is $1000 on a 6 figure name then I can afford to lose it. If it is a $1000 profit on a handreg it is a great deal of money!

It is a relative thing. For few it is peanut, for others it is quite significant. Some people think about making $100,000 via one deal, some believe in doing $1,000 in a deal, 100 times.

I think $1000 is a respectful amount but I will be a lot more respectful for a larger amount :xf.smile:

Depends where/ in what asset i hold the $1000.

Cash=spend it, i have it in cash so i spend it, and dont care if its gone even if after that i wont have any "cash" for a month/2months/2days/w/e. ill add...lets say 4 in this aspect.
Bank Account = use for investments and bills, and ill go with 2, Can afford to lose it.
Gold/Crypto = 4 and 5.

What does $1,000 in and of itself mean to me currently? Nothing. I see it for what it is, essentially and therefor...
I dont ascribe "value" to money. I never did, at the time i had just made $64,000 over night on a crypto asset, and at the time i had only $300 in my bank account, i pinned the same 0 interest in and of itself in caring for $100, $1,000 or $10,000.

That being said, its still "fun" to make and spend $$ :xf.grin::xf.grin:, however, it is a game to me more so then anything else. Making a total of $10,000,000 = Game won, Restart.

Wins so far: 0
Busted so far: 3
1st time, $100,000 (from $200), 2nd time, $120,000( from $3000), 3rd time, around $245,000.( from $800)
Age: 21

3rd times a charm so i guesss i missed it? well see :)

The spectrum of responses is excellent testament to the diversity of this community. Whilst we all share different tolerances to risk, it's amazing that this industry has a fairly low barrier to entry and provides for many, the opportunity to earn more than a monthly income.

The knowledge required to make $1000 in domaining is available to anyone willing to invest the time. The more important $1000 is to each of us, the more important it is to split the signal from the noise... and use that time wisely to understand the trade. The right knowledge is the prerequisite - and the ability to absorb greater financial risk simply reduces the timeframe and effort required to make money.

And although our individual relativity to $1000 is different, our relationship to time is uniform. It is finite, irreplaceable and can be snatched away from us at any point. It should be guarded as closely as our other resources... yet, it is often easier to waste time than it is to waste money.

Voted - If I profit $1,000 changes little and I could afford to lose it

In reality a $1.000 per year to lose is nothing to me, but I don't like to lose :)

To be honest I am shocked how many have said it’s alot of money.

$1000 is a good deal of money to me, that's about how much I make at my fulltime job. Any other online legit and regular $1k a month source would replace my job easily.

I can't think of single middle class family that has ever said, $1000 isn't a lot of money.

Do you regularly poll middle class American families? If it’s a lot it’s because Americans aren’t used to saving and live beyond their means. The truth is most people’s rent or mortgage is higher or very close. The question and answer made it clear —-is it life changing amount—-and no American would say $1K would change their lives.

"life changing" not in your post, few (6 ) people answered $1k would be life changing.

And yes... I conducted a poll.

That wouldn't pay my rent/mortgage even. So in Norway, not a lot of money.

If you’re new to domaining or investing profiting your first $1000 will change your life. Profiting your first $1 makes you addicted, so many people should re vote.

Just some food for thought.

I am currently accepting $1000 donations from my lovely Namepros friends to buy more top quality domain names. Thanks.

A thousand grand sounds like a good deal especially comparing the buying price and profit made from that sale.
For beginners it's even more encouraging to start making such amount considering the nature of the business. (A business you can do from the comfort of your home with little capital). It gives hope that there is a future in the the new found venture.
