The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have studied in nyc and often visited times sq.

I don't know if they are still promoting or not but here is a picture. Turkey promoting its touristic and historic destinations on times sq.

Is this due to alternative advertising in adsense, print, tv and facebook?
Did any states quit updating and eventually drop their website? (But kept their domain name?) Are domains of states owned by Domainers?

That is an incredible Marketing Campaign the Country of Turkey had launched, and no better place than right there in New York! I am sure it was spendy but they got us talking about them so, nice job.

The alternative spending from adsense, tv and definitely FB, that is a good question. I wish I knew the answer but I would bet the Cost/ROI ratio, this campaign would hit more people for very minimal amount of $. The plates are already getting stamped and painted so adding the domain name in a spot there has to cost very little extra. That cost is probably nothing since the public is footing the bill for stamping/painting of plates entirely. Domainers owning that domain for each state, I sure would hope not. If domainer had a sae, all of a sudden it would be gone or redirected to a bad site of some sort. I would hope none of these 9 States would be that foolish to allow the direction of their site to be controlled by a single individual. They have to be owned by the State (definitely the Government sites) or Tourism Dept of each State.

Still, just one of the best, cheapest, furthest reaching ways to advertise. I am very surprised all States have not done this as of yet.

I took a look at Massachusetts.com a few days ago and it's for sale.

I wonder what the actual value would be for a name like this since the state uses Mass.gov

6 figures?
