The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.com is like gold and .ai is like bitcoin.

Park.io sure is making a lot of money auctioning the drops. Not sure about anyone else, but I will say I regged two .ai names early this year and sold both for four figures already. I’m not in a rush to buy any more though.

Dude thanks for the Park.io mention. Again this is how new I am. Interesting.

The .ai extension has sold 143 times 2018 YTD (at least NameBio recorded) with an average price of $2305 (of course the music sale at $101k on Undeveloped is huge part of that). The vast majority (125 of the 143) of the sales have been on ParkIO, although must be kept in mind that many venues including Afternic, Undeveloped do not routinely report to NameBio.

It is primarily the high renew (and register) price that keeps me out of the extension. According to TLD-list the best rate now (which is at Porkbun) is still about $53. While the average price is $2305, the median in 2018 YTD is just $782. You need about a 1 in 15 chance of selling a domain name within a year for it to make break even sense, and that may be hard to achieve I think.

So while I am a huge believer in the future of AI, and domains related to that, I am cautious re the extension even though it has sold relatively well recently.

If I had money I would have bought TechReviews.ai or LatestNews.ai or something...:xf.wink:
Putting "AI" before the name and AI as the suffix is redundant and kinda awkward.

Again we're not on the same page bub.
Its as if its listing AI being the AI sector. Are you familiar with AI ?
So AI Tech Review , thats redundant to you ?
Again your own assumptions have missed completely.

I bought on Namecheap too and sold via Undeveloped. I will say, though, that I agree with NYJimbo, it is a pretty awkward name. Since the extension is .AI, I wouldn't want to prefix names with AI - aitechreview.com could work (though still not a strong name), aitechreview.ai not so much.

I would look at what actually sells on Park.io, and check out Namebio for past .ai sales. It's mostly short, single-keyword names. Everything else is dead weight/too risky, really.

TechReviews.ai is strong. Its simple. The .AI suffix tells you what it is about. If you were running a review site it would be "Tech Reviews of the AI industry" or something. The idea is less is more and you have to put the .AI suffix anyway.

Ok, spend your money. But when you are broke, come back and listen to people and keep an open mind.

I asked before. Can you kindly give me one of your Power House .coms ? Previous sales ?

"Come back when your Broke"

Dude. Really ? That's deff something someone of your caliber would say. Thanks homie

This attitude won't get you very far here. I suggest taking some time to read through these forums, check out what sells on Namebio.com, and then you'll see the advice you're getting isn't coming out of spite, but willingness to help. There are a lot of people here who are willing to give you helpful information, but defensive and immature replies won't get you anywhere.

Is there anywhere to verify the history of .ai registrations (e.g. not through whois.nic.ai).

There was a domain that I was looking at that I am 99% sure it was free to register a month or two back. Low and behold it is now registered. Except the whois says that it expires next year and was originally registered in 2017 and expires in 2019.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

Is there shenanigans going on at the .ai registry where domains searched via their whois are being registered with whois to appear from the previous year? Is this even possible?

BTW this is not an accusation but a genuine question.

@ThatDomainGuy Don't hand register any more names. Use http://auction.whois.ai/auctions next auction is 28th of December

You can pick great expired .ai names for 100-1000 with a significant chance of finding a buyer.

I'll be brutally honest with you, aitechreview.ai has 0% chance of turning a profit or being worth something in the future. Use namebio.com to see the kind of names companies and startups are acquiring and try to make the same buying decisions in the expired auctions within your budget.

Last September I wrote the above. I just wanted to update my opinion based on the strength of sales reported on NameBio so far in 2019 (555 with average selling price of $760) I would change my opinion to be much more positive on the extension. More than 1/4 of all country code sales so far in 2019 on NameBio have been in the .ai extension. Of course investors should pay a lot of attention to the type of names that are getting reasonable prices and the economics of renewal costs (same statement would apply to most country code extensions).

Bob

Disclosure: I currently personally hold no domains in .ai although have considered them, and will continue to do so. Therefore I have no personal experience re trying to sell this extension.
