Last week I wrote about 6666666.com (7x) at GoDaddy. 6666666.com is off to the races. It was up to $78,777 after 2 days. While that price seemed outrageous the auction has gone higher and now sits at $99,999 and closes today. GoDaddy educated everyone on the Dispute.com auction how fast payment needs to be made. This is the best case scenario closing on a Monday, so do you think this … [Read more...]

@Joe Styler Have you guys verified this bidding legit?

66666666 is very auspicious number in china. it's not "lucky" but has significant meaning. nothing evil at all.

the fact this domain has all six to chinese investor this domain is rare. each number counts as +1 as opposed to +8.

from 1-10 you need to remove 0 and 4 so left with 8 valued numbers.

I forgot the meaning 6 but it is a "good" number.

This domain is 1x1x1x1x1x1x1x1= 1

because it is all the same number

if it had been say one or two numbers off?

then the calculation becomes

1x1x1x8x1x8x1x1=64 possiblilities

if it were a set of 8 random numbers but with no 0 and 4? it would look like this.

8x8x8x8x8x8x8x8= 16,777,216 possible permutations.

I guess this is what the buyer is paying for.

that plus there are only 10 possible 8 character .coms in the world with all the same number.

And the fact that it is 8 numbers also is auspicious.

We are working with the Chinese office to secure payment, as you know payment from China is complicated on large amounts.

This doesn't make any sense in any language or in any culture.
7 times 6 (6666666.com) 99,999 usd - sorry but this is bullshit.
Wouldn't be surprised if I don't see a real and active website on it in 3 years.
Bullsh*t
For this price, I am pretty sure enduser can find a better domain which is targeting the global world, not only China.. A descriptive 1 or 2 word .com or an exact match new gTLD or 1 word ccTLD that makes sense , depending on the market it will serve for the enduser.

I don't buy this sales report. Am I the only one who thinks this way?! :sleep::facepalm:

So did you eventually get paid?

I wouldn't even hand register this domain.

I'll look into it. We were having some issues because of where the buyer was located and their fund restrictions.

So did this close finally? If so how was this sale allowed to take so long? Because the translate.com explanation was GoDaddy only had a few days to secure payment, so it seems like a contradiction this one got so much time.

How much money can you transfer out of China?
Chinese nationals are able to transfer up to USD 2,000 a day to an overseas bank account, with a maximum of USD 50,000 per person per year.

?????

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Something seems 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟

I think we as domainers, need to aggregate all questionable auctions like this, send all known info to ALL appropriate authorities including Government entities, The media (Tech Blogs, Twitter, ETC), and private investigators,

As it appears GoDaddy has grown too big for for them to control and monitor on their own.

It seems GoDaddy could use additional help, maybe even additional oversight, to ensure their customers aren't being scammed.

We are still looking into it. I am not sure who could be scammed here. We were the seller and we are working on it still.

In Chinese market anything is possible. I have no reason to doubt this sale will pull through

This Chinese fund transfer restrictions cost me 18,000 EURO sales at Sedo. Probably Sedo wasn't proactive enough to assist.

I think the problem is, how it's funny, that there are seven 6, not six 6. I think it should be better to have six 6 numbers. I doubt very very much in sale for 100k dollars. It does not worth it.
