Got my notification that I am eligible to start transferring domains to cloudflare.

Will start with a few to see how well it works but you can't do better than cost so I think it will be tough for any other registrar to compete. Especially since I'm paying quite a bit for the godaddy discount club.

So I will test on my new domains and if it works out I will transfer my domains as they expire or when my discount club ends.

I think this is an EARLY ACCESS preview, I signed up when it was announced so I'm not sure if it's open to everyone yet.

Curious...

What is the exact price CloudFlare is charging right now for a .COM transfer?

... per their developer section, they stated:

I posted pricing above

The pricing you posted included registration and renewal; wasn't sure if that also applied to transfers.

Hmmm, very good question

If transfers are free then other Registrars better start crapping themselves now.

Nope, it ads one year to the registration.

Same as everyone else

HOW SWEET WOULD IT HAVE BEEN JUST TO TRANSFER AT NO CHARGE

Is there a Cloudflare rep on namepros?

Some members would probably love to transfer hundreds of domains but only pay renewals as they expire.

Is there any registrar that allows a transfer without extending for one year?

Not that I can tell.

Whenever in question, check the NP Representative page, under members. HERE

Maybe somebody could start a CloudFlare domain registrar experience thread, then email/tweet CloudFlare a link, and see if they can entice a representative to join the forum.

All registrars that I know of include a domain renewal. Not sure if that's a registry or registrar policy.

But some registrars charge cheaper prices for transfers; not saying the registry charges them less. It's generally some sort of promotion designed for the registrar to gain more domains.

Last year, NetSol did a bunch of free transfers, that included a year of free renewal. But for most, it turned out to be a headache.

I would consider this such a thread, one of the mods will probably move it.

I looked through the listing, nobody from cloudflare there.

If anyone has a contact at Cloudflare could you email them a link to this topic?

I don't see any ccTLD support at this point

That is a dreadful shame, but I guess this being a preview release we will hopefully get this in the future.

Please ask CF to provide (code) a way to export info related to all of your domains in the account. I recently checked and they did not have this for their primary service == Stone Age..

(Sadly) it's not possible for (n)GTLDs as this depends on registry and/or Verisign policy.
A bunch of ccTLDs allow that (e.g. AT, CH, ES, IM, LT, NZ, SE, UK to name a few)
Would love if that would be possible for GTLDs too, would give you better flexibility.
Though I see while it might only have pros for the user, there would be some cons mainly for the registrar..

As they would need their own accredition for each ccTLD, I suppose this won't come so fast.

They seem have have some sort of agreement with Donuts though. Most all miscellaneous extensions supported are the ones from donuts.

Do you need to be on one of the paid monthly CloudFlare plans in order to get this at cost pricing?

No it's the same for everyone and no additional discounts because it's at cost.
It basically takes the need to shop completely out of the picture.

It's a nail in the coffin for other registrars, no more having to pay Uniregistry or GoDaddy for bullshit discount clubs just to get decent pricing.

Am I moving??
As soon as ccTLD support comes I'm transferring my domains.

Here is a quote from Cloudflare

Domain name registration is dominated by companies offering large discounts on the initial domain name purchase and then later surprising customers with incremental add-on fees and inflated renewal costs.

Cloudflare Registrar will only ever charge you what we pay to the registry for your domain. No markup and no surprise fees. Security features like two-factor authentication, multi-user support, and a security-focused customer support team gives you peace of mind that your domain is safe.

I read an article and they said there are no costs to be a registrar for them because they already do that and they don't see why they have to charge clients extra for something that takes a computer a second to do.

I'll try and dig up that article.

From Cloudflare....

The marketplace for domain registration has been stagnant and manipulative. Registrars lure customers in with low registration fees and end up charging them extremely high renewal fees. They also trick users into purchasing services they do not need or charge fees for critical services that are otherwise offered for free, like SSL. Cloudflare’s Registrar does away with the misleading pricing model, offering a fairly-priced solution with no markup from wholesale pricing—initially and at every renewal—to all of Cloudflare’s customers.
