GoDaddy Premium Auction BIN Seller Backing Out

Found a GD premium auction listing on 12/1 for $250. checked the whois info and the domain is registered with GD as registrar so i decided to give them a call and verify that there wouldn't be any issues with it being moved from the sellers GD account to my GD account after completing the BIN and paying. The rep assured me that since the domain was with GD as registrar and that it was a premium listing, it would automatically move from one account to the other once the payment was made/cleared.

then i receive an email about an hour ago from GD saying:

"It has come to our attention that the seller of (domain) will not be able to complete the transaction as agreed. At this time we have taken action against the seller and have issued a refund for the purchase of this domain."

after calling all the various support numbers everyone at GD says "sorry, the seller can still choose to not honor the BIN after the BIN has been paid" which doesn't match with what i was told previously.

Now i'm kind of screwed because this domain was a christmas gift for someone, and apparently there is no such thing as an escalation path with the aftermarket domain team, even thought the domain registrar is GD themselves.

Anyone have other paths for escalating this, or am i just out of luck here?

thanks!

yeah, that's what i thought too? i spoke to a an inbound supervisor that went back to the aftermarket team for more info that came back to me saying that they (aftermarket team person) told him:

"the person that listed the domain says that they already sold it to someone else, and that he/they no longer own it so since he doesn't have it anymore, he cancelled the transaction"

which made me go "huh?" because how did he list the domain as a premium BIN listing from within his GD account, but then somehow he doesn't own it anymore so can't complete the transaction? O_o i thought that since GD is the registrar and the seller and myself both have GD accounts, once the sale is closed and payment verified, all that needs to happen is the domain at GD slides from one account to another

There is a clear pattern I am seeing with what an agent says and what actually happened. for the short time ive been here I have multiple personal experiences. I feel you will get no where with this, and I dont blame you for posting or continuing with the demand for clarity. its hard to come by , but in the end its just a nother detailed story ending in the same outcome.

I will forever forewarn any new comers to utilize Godaddy but be sure to diversify

yes, after being treated this way i plan to avoid godaddy at all costs and forewarn others to do the same. cannot be trusted.

its yoru call but I'd be careful with not listing your own names for sale on gd.. as this can cost you many sales and leads.. gd auctions is till the best selling platform for many or most domainers. imo its a very bad idea not to list your names on gd auctions for sale.

Premium Listing, if at Godaddy it would auto lock, and transfer?

Your screwed because this domain was a Christmas gift, was it a wrong listing, or maybe he dropped it previously?

Something just doesn't add up here.

great questions, the only thing that makes sense at this point is 'seller's remorse' and for whatever reason GD is allowing them to back out of the deal after the fact.

It wasn't a premium name or it would have moved immediately. This sounds like an auction listing with a Buy Now Price which takes 5-6 days to move.
This leaves only two options, it wasn't one or it wasn't able to be sold at the time you bought it. Which seems to be what you are being told. So it is possible that they sold it somewhere else. We do not demand exclusivity. You can list your domain on another sales platform or many. If the name sold somewhere else and they initiated a transfer but it didn't finalize moving yet.
Or the new owner has it registered at GoDaddy but they were not the original lister. The original lister sold the domain and did not update that via Afternic or something as Afternic automatically lists via GoDaddy auctions at a BIN price if there is one provided. We cannot force the domain to move from the wrong listing account to the buyer.
If the seller does not move the name to you we would take action against them for not keeping their listings up to date, which would very likely result in a Ban.

No that wouldn't add up. If the name was listed by the current owner of the domain it would automatically move when it sold whether they had remorse or not. The only thing that adds up is what he is being told, the seller who listed it does not currently own it. It was either already in the process of moving to the new owner (via transfer for instance) or was already in the possession of the new owner.

What is this magical name, given it is gone now, are we talking one word .com for $250?

SantaCameEarly.com ?

@Joe Styler
When you are on a domain's DNS Management page on godaddy, and you want to set a redirect to the domain's GoDaddy auction listing page.
Like you own JoeStyler.com. You want visitors to land on the JoeStyler.com's auction page.
It says: ''You can't forward a domain to any page on GoDaddy.com''.
This used to work a month ago.
Quite silly.

It will no longer work. You will need to send people the full link or use a for sale lander on the URL that sends them to the listing.
