I had not for some time checked the Spamhaus registrar ratings. I was surprised when I did as some names like NameBright and NameSilo that I don't recall being on the 'worst 10' list before now are. Anyone have suggestions for the change? I do know that the list changes sometimes substantially with day. You can find the most recent data at this link.

Thanks Bob. That is on top 10 that I am happy to not have Epik on! Surprised to see GMO so high on this list.

5 of them are china-based registrars!
Not a single Russian? Where did all .RU spam domains went?

Cheap promo regs (ngtlds) used for spam perhaps?

Of course for reasons I don't totally understand the majority of registrars are in the US and China so it is not surprising the worst ones would also come from those countries.

There is a separate part that does look at it in terms of countries. The worst are (in order)
US
China
Russia
Ukraine
Japan
UK
India
Hong Kong

No doubt that the fact that .top has such a high score correlates with the Chinese registrars on the list, since the TLD is predominantly registered there. The good characteristics of .online, .site, .xyz, all substantially better than .com and .net, don't totally cancel out the bad performance of .top, .loan and some other less registered extensions.

What surprises me about the change in the list of late is that several of the registrars in the middle of the list are not known as ngTLD registrars, with most of their registrations in legacy extensions. I am not sure why the list has changed so much. It is partly that Alp have gotten much better, but the others seem to have gotten worse too.

Of course the majority of phishing, which predominates the abuse list, is in .com and the 'free' country code extensions. But that is not a change.

Spam is illegal in .ru.
Registrars bloking domains in few hours if get confirmed complains.
Same for illegal adult materials, violence, narcotics, terrorism etc.
