I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

Does "xin nian qian xi" mean New Year's Eve? Is it western and not Chinese New Year's Eve.

Thanks.

Yue DAI (戴跃) just tweeted on Wechat that he spent several million US dollars to acquire the domain KR.com. This followed his acquisition of JP.com in January this year. JP is the abbreviation for Japan and KR for Korea. Dai also runs his domain shopping mall from Yuming.com. BTW, YuMing.com (域名) is a 2-pin domain meaning "domain".

Kassey, Like many I gave up on all other prefixes than the .com & . cn however I do like the .ai as it seems to me to be the perfect generic for the AI industry and in many ways the e-gaming industry. Is there any China centric cultural reason that could stop the growing use of .ai in the Chinese WeChat generation ?

Ai is a Pinyhin word meaning 爱 (love) so the meaning is good, but imho .ai will be like .ly, sy, .co. etc. as they came and went. At a certain time in the future, everything will be AI-based so that no one will talk about this term any more, just like what electricity is today. IMO, only .com and country extensions are the mainstream extensions, the rest are mostly niche markets.

Hmm just not sure as I think AI will as you say be part of everything and as such a clear distinct line from mortals. ly sy ect are not generics where as electricity or E-sports (got you thinking ?) dianziyouxi.ai I'm just not sure sure how cool a WeChat generation would think as the future will be a mix of English & Chinese not that I will be around then....

Hi @Kassey Lee ,

Does VTH means anything? I got an price inquire for .biz domain, from a Chinese guy, so have no idea what price to call, if this doesnt have any meaning then its only a few hundreds, but if does have then it's a different game...

Thank you

The first thing I always do is to do end user research. Check Baidu. Check .cn. Check .com.cn for China market. Unfortunately, nothing special about VTH popped up.

Do .CN domains sell well to businesses in China?

Most .CN sales are probably not reported, but the ones that are (at Sedo), seem interesting (filebox.cn $5385, designchina.cn $2999, paybit.cn $12000, playfab.cn $17250 etc.)

I wonder if there is a website that reports sales of investors to end users for .CN domains (like namebio or a section in a domain forum)….

Yes, number of .cn registrations in China is about 2X of .com. While .com is King by value, .cn is No. 1 by volume.

As I don't speak Chinese, is it best to just list my .CN domains at Sedo and Afternic? (I think a chinese buyer would see the sales page in Chinese at Sedo automatically).
I am guessing some end users would also contact me via email sometimes.

It is not difficult to list at 4.CN and you can make a shop ... and still sell at GoDaddy/Sedo etc.

How to contact a domain owner in China

恭喜恭喜!新春快乐! Happy Chinese New Year! I look forward to another year of good conversation with my readers.

You have just come up with a great brand name, so the next step is to acquire its matching domain. You type the domain into the browser but nothing appears. You turn to a domain ownership checking tool such as Whois.com but no contact information comes up. But, you notice the domain is managed by a registrar in China. If that happens, here is a tip you can try.

Hey! I saw this in namebio just now. It's intriguing because it's a 6N, with no 8 or 9 or 7, but it went for this high price!

266365.com 1,859 USD 2019-02-08 GoDaddy

I'm wondering about it because I own a similar domain: 226595

I'm wondering about it
I have not seen wide use of long number domains in corporate China. It's probably used for trading purpose among speculators. I myself don't understand the real need for them so I don't touch them.

But I would like to know if it also can mean something related to money,
A number has no intrinsic meaning in Chinese. Meanings are added to a number using the rhyming technique, which is a creative process. For example, 48 also sounds like 是吧 (right) or 丝瓜 (luffa) but I don't have anything related to money off the top of my head.

@Kassey Lee is mixed pin possible on a 4L? For example if the first pin is 2L and the other two pin are on the 3rd & 4th letter.

For example LECB for 了出版?
