Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Usually I don’t invest in any type of domains where I don’t have a good grip and that’s the reason I never bought domains in huge quantity in short period especially when most domainers when coming in business simply start buying too many domains without doing their due diligence.

During the hype of 3L, 4L CHIP domains, we saw numeric domains got registered even 9Ns which was just ridiculous. Anyhow, I made a mistake of investing in 6N .com and bought around 15 for $7000-$7500 altogether. Since last couple of months I’ve been trying to offload all those domains at GoDaddy Auctions for less than $100 a piece and most of the time no one bothers buying it. So far I’ve sold half of them for little over $500 including GD commission. I don’t normally sell any domain for less than $1,000 but these were the names I just wanted to let expire and thought to give them try selling at GoDaddy and see if I can recover anything.

So in short, I lost few grands by investing blindly and at the peak time of 6N domains. The lesson is not to invest in any niche without studying, researching and putting in lot of efforts before you take any step further. I’ve seen Shane who’s been very vocal about his sales especially when he has lost money in any domains and most people don’t share their losses so that’s good from him to be open publicly. Appreciate that!

Now it’s time for 5N .com domains which I was lucky to invest some years back and bought at cheap prices when there wasn’t much demand for it. Unfortunately I didn’t had good knack on numeric domains so the focus was just to acquire at cheap prices and got ALL 5N domains which either had 0, 4 or both together!

I’ve been selling them as well at GoDaddy and was having around 10 of those and just left with one. Hopefully will sell that one in coming days. Overall, I didn’t made any profit on these and I see it break even while considering my time spent on finding, buying, money stuck for years, GoDaddy commission.

In future, I’ll try to be more cautious while buying domains as I don’t like to buy too many domains for test and trial. My buying strategy is to focus on those domains which I think will ultimately land in the hand of endusers.

It would be nice if any one likes to share their experience (losses) for others to learn, understand and not to repeat such mistakes in future.

"Scarcity creates demand" may not be always true for domaining. You never know when a market would ripe or when a bubble would burst..

I am currently holding 200-300 numerical domains. I honestly don't know whether to renew them or not.

I sold enough 6N and 7N numerics in 2016-2017. Not premium ones and mostly with 0 and/or 4.
I was registered at $9 and selling for $15-$30 here and on Bido.
I still have 4 numerics domains, I will renewal them of couse.

I appreciate your thought but look like market still alive, I would hold mine.

its a shame so many people suffer in what they are doing, instead of enjoying it. thank you for sharing.

I agree with this, that's why I didn't invest in number domains because I don't really understand Chinese numerology. And following the herd can be harmful to your finances. And if you identify a niche, don't go overboard, diversify, limit your monetary exposure, especially in speculative trends. Also, invest in niches you are familiar with.

I see pretty cold responses on even 5N.com .
And 6N premium domains are not selling anywhere except GoDaddy expiring which I never understood how all junk 6N getting sold at good prices .

Numeric market is completely out of focus except 4N .

I am happy that I (mostly) stayed away from both the chip and numeric ”craze”, two years ago. It’s no doubt that many domainers made a lot of money from it, but some also lost a lot.

Personally, I try to focus on names that may attract businesses. Not so much chinese investors, or fellow domainers.

make it simple :
4 mean death
0 mean bad luck
8 and 9 mean good luck or prosperity

I think if the domain is 6 numbers long, even the 8 and 9 will not bring you luck

For an experimental basis i drop caught these two from Namejet:
808803 .com
883707 .com

Got some knowledge that 8 is good but didn't know 0 is bad :xf.confused:

finding it hard to flip them for even 2 digit figures.

I would rather try to get 808808 instead of 808803.

That's what in this niche get sold other always get dropped

are combination of numerals and letters better?
Like 13x4.com
Is it worth?

i just make it simple to understand chinesee numerology
if you want to describe it with domaining principles it would be quite long and deep... as i said i just want to make it simple :xf.wink:

may be it depend from person to person. Like i see 13x4 as two unlucky numbers (13 and 4) crossing (X) out to become lucky. :-P
Otherwise its like there are 13 playing cards of 4 suits in a playing cards deck. Hence 13x4. :)

I bought just one numeric domain that was 575.org and every domainer said its a good acquisition after waiting 6 months of outbounding i got no reply from any company so i realized its useless i bought this one in 450 usd then after all efforts i thought i should give it try on gd auctions from 20 usd no reserve and i sold it in 680 usd ...from that day i have decided not to go in numerics unless its atleast 50% down from current market value so i can buy and do quick flip but still i am against numeric until unless its extremely premium in great low price.

in 2018 I managed to sell approximately 100 6L and 7L .com domains

I have a good domain like:
8111118 . com
2112112 .com
938832 . com

investing in 6N and 7N domains for me is still very profitable. Because with $ 8 capital, you can still sell $ 200

best regards

I'm not certain if this 0 and 4 phobia is only widespread among domainers or Chinese themselves really believe this?

I've sold many 6N domains containing 0 and 4 directly to Chinese buyers. Yes, not for big amount $200 - $300. But bearing in mind that I've acquired them mostly from GD closeouts or here on NP for low $XX, hardly can I complain.
In fact I have a special section on my website tagged "Bargain-priced Domains". When I'm having difficulty disposing off low-value domains in my portfolio or before dropping such, I normally list them in the "Bargain-priced Domains" section with BIN and send out mails to whoever has contacted me in the past about domains. Most of my numeric domain I've sold using this approach. The only numeric domain I have there right now at bargain price s 8023/co
That's all I can share. Thanks.

P.S.
Bargain-Priced items are very popular search terms on google. Some visitors (very few) land on my website searching for the words. Generally, they always arrive late.

Very interesting!
So, if you win a lottery jackpot of $40000000000
what do you do?
Reject?
Refuse?
Deny?
Die ten times?

For me, the answer is clear. Even if I'm to die ten times because of the zeros, I'll make sure I bag the bucks... first thing first.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Which time period did you sold those 6Ns containing 0 and 4 for $200-$300?

They are several. Let me check my PP account for the most recent. I'll attach the shots.
