Hi everyone, I am new to the community, wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I am relatively new to the domaining world, have 15 years of experience in web design and development, marketing, sales and branding. I got into the domains world whilst working on some landing page and presentations for premium domain names and since I have got more and more into it, it is a fascinating industry!

I will be very happy to connect with everyone here and get to know this community and learn more about domains, been some time since I have been active anywhere but on Facebook and am starting to feel old:))

lol...I misread your post...didn't mean to seem to be critical of your being so active there. You will find this site sooooooo much more engaging (some threads will really draw you in) and filled with domainer and domain investing knowledge. Face is a great place for business promotion but I am too private a person to be there... for those I am close to the communication method is the old fashioned email with pic files. :xf.smile:

Hello @Tatiana .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

Your background in marketing and particularly branding is really going to give you a huge headstart compared to most new domainers. In fact, I think it's a lack of being able to grasp those concepts that is the reason most fail.

I guess I'm getting too old for Facebook too .. but more than anything else .. it's gotten boring .. I'm there 1/10th as much as I used to be. It's just got too many of my personal contacts there for me to ever completely drop ... lol

Anyhow .. best of luck to you for your jump into domaining! :)

PS .. Contact an admin (try @Eric Lyon) about changing your user name or go here:

(I think you need to be a gold member, but I don't see it being a problem for a brand new member, since there are no old posts that will become confusing. Just be sure when choosing your new username, as I think you're only ever allowed to change it once .. although that might have changed in the last year or so)

haha no worries:) I actually had an account there for years without using it then got into it over one winter where I had way too much work to be able to afford any time for social contacts in real life. Then ever since it has been useful because I travel a lot and can keep up with friends and family there. And yes, for business it can be of use though I honestly find in most cases you have to be there for credibility rather than some amazing effects and there are so many social media "gurus" out there that have no clear idea of what they are doing that it's very hard to pin down any results and what they are due to.

You know the thing I found mind-blowing was that after spending a few days of reading on domains I realised I've been working with entrepreneurs on their online presence for so long and domains have almost never been a focus! Which is just crazy, for any business owners, for any marketer, branding agency - domains were always a pain because often people couldn't find the desired one available then if they had it - so many times they'd lost the details or/and the domain is registered with old developer etc so they have no control over it etc. etc. so the question of domains has always been a pain and nothing else. I felt like a total dummy (on behalf on the whole marketing industry if you like!) like, how on earth is that not as big (or bigger) focus as coming up with a good name or logo? We would be throwing days of work on marketing campaigns and slogans and all and then you send people to howonearthdoIspellthat.net and don't even think about the damage it does and the losses it causes. It is really odd and crazy how it has ever got there but it is the case. I have my theories as to why it is the case but am way to green and would rather learn more before having solid opinions:)

Re. fb - like most social networks now I find it has got way too fake, I think I read somewhere of someone who witnessed a colleague making a coffee only to take a picture of it for socials and then throw it away without drinking it. That's what fb and all of those networks have become, it is a very good analogy - all show, no real value, yellow news and arguments and everyone is "a hero". I just keep it as I mentioned already in another answer - because I'd lose touch with friends and family since we are all over the world. But honestly - we are all just lazy, if we could be bothered a call once a week or a nice email would do much better.
