VR is kind of boring right now. Not seeing it going mainstream in the next 10 years unless Apple pulls a miracle device out of their ass. The misconception was that desktop VR was holding the industry back but mobile VR may not be very attractive to consumers either in the way tech is today and the coming years. I've tried vr a couple of time and can honestly say that even if they greatly improved the tech I still won't find it exciting enough to buy a headset unless it costs less than 50€. thought I was hoping for 2023 for significant mainstream adaption but I think the tech may need a LOT more time than that and by then AR could be center stage sucking attention from VR because they have similar use cases... Many more strictly VR companies will struggle to make a profit and get funding if they're aren't adapting AR as a service or product. It could get gloomy and the age of VR may pass until it's third, more technologically advanced coming.

Again...i will stand corrected if Apple pulls a miracle vr headset out of stealth... But I doubt it. They're smart. They knew this all along and have been focusing on AR all along. Companies register patents that they have zero plans to use every day so don't use Apple's vr patents as some kind of evidence that they're working on a vr headset. Its not necessarily true and if they aren't, because Apple is the market trend setter it doesn't look like a promising near future for VR (the next 10 - 15yrs) .

Perhaps the people who accepted their VR offers during the hype made a good choice.
There can be 10 years between hype and mainstream.

VR could fail again, but convinced its time will come. Because there’s nothing else, not sure what everything is going to be called, but the Holodeck on Star Trek is the ultimate end goal and that is a ‘Virtual Reality’ there’s no sugar coating that with another term a ‘virtual reality’ is the definition of it.

When you have a massive house brick strapped across your face, it’s not going to go main-stream, when quality feels like your short-sighted and it’s not going to go mainstream, i think when all these issues get address and you can just pick up some glasses and go inside VR that’s when the tech will take off.

As for domains, i probably went a little OTT in how much i spent, but made some good sales and won’t lose money and still holding some really good names on paper, the video domain i have for example, with potential of volumetric video and VR P*rn (probably the most popular use of VR Video right now) the potential of VR Video is massive, whether it fulfills its potential or not remains to be seen, but market projections are still bright.

One thing I’ve always been worried about though is if/when VR does go big, it has the potential to change things, could it make domains redundant?

I admit I got bored and nearly lost faith in VR but I’ve seen some recent developments that are going change everything.

Cryptocurrencies like (BAT) ‘Basic Attention Token’ plan revolutionise the advertiser/consumer relationship to reward and incentivise the viewer/user experience. Instead of the current outdated advertising model we are going to see users actually getting paid in Cryptocurrencies to spend time in VR/AR.

When (not if) this happens mainstream VR/AR adoption will be swift and on a grand scale.

Incentives to consume boring content doesn't work. Crypto can't make vr more usable and entertaining.

No one wants to wear a headset longer than 20 minutes... Small window for ads and content.

When I see VR keynotes I can't even finish them... Because I know they're not going to announce anything significant... OK eye tracking... Wow 😴... You're going to track Sally's eyes before she gets sick and takes off her headset? Vr headsets sitting in closets collecting dust.

Give it 10 - 15 years... Unless Apple pulls a miracle vr device out of their ass before then.

Why are Facebook, Instagram etc so popular? It’s the little dopamine hits off shares and likes people get. Couple that with a financial reward for sharing content and potentially sending something viral and you’ve got something not only incredibly addictive but financially rewarding.

BAT will decimate Google mark my words. The first to apply this concept in a more creative way in VR will do very well imo.

Applications like this will evolve and become more popular, hopefully...

Lots of news....
I start with this that I warned was coming. Facebook has been working on the same.
https://www.mcvuk.com/business/goog...to-read-the-emotional-expressions-of-vr-users

To the rest of it, everyone is getting their pole positions in promoting before the holidays which normally starts a week to 10 days before thanksgiving here in the US.

Sphere's
- I don't know how great this is but it is a change in the way vr apps are moving and perhaps a good sign.
https://www.cnet.com/news/oculus-ri...ace-vr-movie-that-landed-a-seven-figure-deal/

Oculus GO gets YoutubeVR - They had to have more content before the holiday sales start.
https://www.iol.co.za/business-repo...outube-vr-now-available-on-oculus-go-18095648

Something different in vr entertainment.
https://tbivision.com/2018/11/13/bbc-launches-first-vr-comedy-experience-for-people-just-do-nothing/

Hey... it's just getting started. Going to be a interesting 20 days to get out before the holidays.
I expect a bunch of hardware announcements after the new year into spring.(after holiday)

And then for the hardware future, rumors have been about Valve making their own VR hardware.
now leaked photo's 135 deg FOV.

Chinese Tech Giant Huawei Aims to Commercialize AR Headset in 1-2 Years
https://www.roadtovr.com/chinese-tech-giant-huawei-aims-commercialize-ar-headset-1-2-years/

"As the world’s largest telecom manufacturer, when Chinese tech giant Huawei makes a market prediction, they have plenty of room to speak. Talking in an interview with CNBC, Huawei CEO Richard Yu says the industry at large will begin commercializing AR headsets within one to two years, Huawei included."
Full immersion VR is something else but it’s becoming obvious that AR is where it’s at.

All the ground work is being done for the AR market to make AR Glasses the next must have toy.

I still really think that life sized games in vr i.e. arcades may not be the top dog but a big one.
Disney now in on the action

Kinda agree but we are still looking at the AR industry being 5 years in development behind the VR industry.
That being despite some of the dev framework already advanced by the VR industry.
And if the prices on AR hardware do not dramatically improve, very slow growth when there is some kinda competition in a few years.
It will get there, just some wait for it.

The VR industry seems to have all hopes in 2019. And from what I see, if they don't have some good numbers to show in expansion, it's going to get hard to explain to shareholders and increased investment.
But I think we will make the mark. No explosions though. but I think it will have truly grabbed the imagination of the general public next year.
Just from what I call 'show and tell'. Seeing one of your friends cool VR app.

‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ Augmented-Reality Game to Launch in 2019

https://variety.com/2018/digital/ne...ed-reality-game-to-launch-in-2019-1203028288/

In “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite,” players will be able to explore real-world surroundings to unravel a global mystery, cast spells, and encounter fantastic beasts and iconic characters along the way.

With AR glasses, Blockchain Collectibles and games like this, the world of gaming is going to be very entertaining.

I reckon this time in 3 years we’ll have AR Glasses wirelessly coupled with Blockchain Phones with tons of dapps and games to go at. I love VR but it’s just too limiting in so many ways. Very excited about AR right now.

Just searching around some keywords i have, one of my favorite domains is:-

juvalx.jpg

One thing i've noticed is news articles/social media is using the word more and more from when i bought it. My way of thinking at the time was single word (rare in VR/AR), looked at other similar words like ’awesomeness’ and just felt when VR/AR takes off could be an important word and a memorable brand for a company to build around in virtual tech.

Bought the domain from @xr reality a couple years ago now.

What’s a domain you have (not necessary your best) but you really like?

I love my .coms but was pleasantly surprised to hand reg ARlens / co today.
games are fun and will drive an industry , but its the practicality for business that will blow something main stream. IMHO

I picked up ARCryptoGame and Games in king. I know they are very niche but there’s some really interesting projects connecting the two niches.

I've not invested in Crypto mate, i don't know enough about it to invest money there but i know a lot believe in it's future, same with AR, so if both are the future, it's quite feasible something new could be created between both techs.

TeleporterTours

I have told the story here before on it and won't do it again but I bought the surrounding names including Teleporter .Tours

So when the time is ripe, I will have a nice package ready for branding.
Perhaps as soon as 2-3 more years ? Not holding my breath on that timeline. Long term play.
But I may even develop it myself.
Or at least partner with many folks to make a network of programming for it.
Seems to be the most logical route anyway.
