Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

The singular version is taken but a bit of NameBio-ing shows that the plural has sold more (and for more). Also Google Trends shows that the plural version is being searched more.
I have the singular of this one. 🙂

The Detroit Free Press reports - Proposition 1 passed comfortably with 56 percent of the vote, making Michigan the first state in the Midwest to legalize Adult use Cannabis.

I think plant variety names can be TM'd but because Cannabis is currently federally illegal, it is unable to be TM'd.

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20120827/01124220163/can-you-trademark-your-pot.shtml

I think there will be a legal / TM rush once it becomes legal federally. But as pointed out in the above article, even though a TM has not been issued a name or product can be protected still.

Below is a link to uspto plant patient / TM page.

http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac/plant/#1

From a follow up from 2014. Changes to the CIPO here in Canada are coming! The US is still in the same boat, they need to reschedule mj first.

"once the amendments to the Act come into force, an applicant will be permitted to register a trademark without using it anywhere in the world"

https://news.lift.co/4-trademark-law-tips-cannabis-brand-owners-need-know/

Good news, I wish they did this a couple years ago.

Regarding strain / variety names, what the LP's in Canada are doing is using the same type of bud but renaming it to their TM'd name.

I follow plant genetics; until thiers access too the Federal patent and trademark platform no one can own a variety.

This is why I believe multinationals will struggle to standardize any coherent product line in Cannabis. And therefore the industry will be rationalized with local growers, and their strains and branding.

Even if thiers a state patent; just find a clone somehow and or seed and you too can own the latest and greatest.

Another note, theirs no Federal policies coming soon. Two branches of government are in conservative ( Republican ) hands. Yes the big bad wolf is gone, Sessions but...floating around as the new Attorney General is Bondi of Florida and Cristi; two very anti Cannabis options.

At best I see thos going twords protecting states rights, and the follow thru on State By State rollouts, with at best Federal Banking and Trademark and Patent access.

You guys as I mentioned earlier I have recently acquired the domain name
Screenshot_2018-11-12_220517.jpg

Doing a bit of research to find keywords that match with the 'ic' suffix, I found the following keywords (or their variations) already being used in companies' names:
I:
Insurance
International
Industry
Information
Integrated
Infusion
Innovation
Inspection

C:
Company
Corporation
Coverage
Consulting
Compliance
Committee
Commission
Cultivation
Centre
Culture
California
Canada

I appreciate if you know more words that fit into this acronym 'ic' that a cannabis business might use. Also, after having so many possible keywords that fit, I'm sure this boosts the probability of getting it sold. But does it increase the price exponentially?

Jay,

Follow the legislation and the state by state rollouts alongside the metrics of typical domain principals.

The both are intertwined; something than many if not most don't understand here.

It's about the volume of permitts and competitive markets ( that will need branding ) as opposed to monopolistic and multi national plays that both the media ( heard about Canopy; Aurora and Cronos enough?) and rockstar sales discussed here are focused on.

Example
Florida is a looser. 13 stupid permitts ( most brandables) with no expansion of the cannabis monopoly theirs 0 sales for us. I mean 0. Unless Gilluam gets in theres a Republican Governor. He will hold back on any new cannabis ventures beyond the 13. Now Michigan. God knows the opportunities. A domain gold mine I predict. Although Kieth feels the market may be different than I predict; so well there's debate. Fyi we both live near each other and watch this closely; Michigan.

So yea metrics and keyword algorithms and such. But equally watch local legislative rollouts and carefully watch the numbers. Unlimited sounds better than 13 like Florida.

Match both domain principals; your research. Then add in practical realistic permitting and end users consuming domains. Theres your market.

Best of luck
Danny

ic = Indica Cartridge (the vape cartridges) are BIG biz. Infused cartridge, infused cookies, candy - etc... it's endless hahaha/

It's a good name to work with, that is for sure.

I sort my domains as aimed at two camps. One ready for the multinational big money high end corporations and products, while the other aimed at those now-legal local dealers who are only willing to pay a pound worth of weed for a domain since they are already listed at that leafedin.com map. There is always an 'amazon' for every industry and for this one there is leafedin, I believe.

The big corps would need names that feel cannabis-ic (see what I did there?) but still sound professional and have that corporate feel. They have to pay big money to get those, if we all agree to up our prices for this kind of names (assuming that the majority of cannabis names are owned by people on this forum).

The local dealer can settle for street names. Would have no problem using words such as 'dank' or 'icky' in their names. Might even substitute the 's' with a 'z' and still be ok with it.

Of course, the first camp has a lot less players than the 2nd but a lot more money to spend. This doesn't mean there isn't any money in the 2nd camp. After all, 1000 domains sold for 1000 USD a piece is a million dollars.

I only own around 10 domains in this niche so of course I'm not a big player but that's how I see it. Good luck to all!
