Does GoDaddy Staff Call You Asking To Renew Domains?

Been receiving calls from people claiming to be the staff of GoDaddy, asking me to renew my names.

I am casually replying that I don't want to renew, then they ask for a reason and my email associated with Godaddy so that they will opt me out of their renewal calls.

Some sense of responsibility in me tells me that I should not reveal my email and other account details to anyone anytime. I told them that I will give all the details to the chat representatives online.

Red Bell 1: They have my name, all my domain list, so don't they have my email?
Red Bell 2: I never opted in for GoDaddy phone alerts.
Red Bell 3: They are asking me to renew a domain which I just hand-regged yesterday.
Red Bell 4: They are more focused on getting my email address than anything else.
Red Bell 5: I use my brands' mail and contact name and number. So if they know my real name and real phone number, something tells me that it's an inside job or some sort of big network of scammers/spammers.

Does all of Godaddy customers get calls to renew their domains regularly? Or I am just overacting to a normal procedure from Godaddy?

Thanks in advance for helping me out :)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I usually get a call every quarter from Godaddy about renewal, I believe if you renew annually they will call you but if you renew for a number of years then you can expect 4 calls per year for the last 12 months if that makes sense, this is coming from a godaddy Agent I know.

for the past two months the calls from them have increased significantly ( usually 4-5 calls a year, now same nimber of calls but for 2 months ) and seem to be more aggressive

Hopefuly this is not some sort of new scam

Just don't give your info over the phone as it could be anyone calling.
Go to online chat and ask them to remove you from the list, if that list exists.

An inside job by whom? If GoDaddy, wouldn't they have access to your email if they have your phone and name?

Some Ex-staff member or a friend of a current staff. Or some powerful info skimmer.

Lol, I am not talking about Godaddy doing it, I am talking about somebody who has access to the user database of Godaddy. Because all whois data from GD is masked on the frontend.

Why would GD as a company would be interested in domains worth a few peanuts? It's obvious I am not talking about the company, I am talking about data leaks which isn't much possible without the help of a person who already has access to such info.

Or simply, they can be real GD staff and genuinely wanted my opinion on the renewal of domains, that's what I am asking here for.

I am just looking forward to clarifying that does all GD customers get such calls in and around their renewal period? That's it. Not trying to malign anybody's image here because I am myself a great fan of GD platform.

When you use online chat they ask for your 4 digit PIN to access your account, not your email address. They know damn well there are security issues, don't think they would implement processes that would make people feel suspicious..

@Joe Styler have you heard of those calls?

I used to when I had hundreds of domains with them a couple of years ago. But since moving them out and just keeping a few dozen there now, the calls have stopped. (thankfully)

As someone said above, don't give info out over phone to incomming call. Call GD and have them take you off the 'call list'; but in the meantime it would not hurt to change your pin code with them,

I regularly get calls and they have assigned someone to my account. I actually appreciate the contact, the gentleman was very nice and asked if he could help me with anything. He discussed the number of domains I had and I told him I have two more big lists but it took me two days to move over the last one. I told him that entering all the transfer codes and getting hundreds of confirmation emails can be quite a task.

He offered to help on his end and walked me through a couple of feature differences between the classic and beta domain panel etc.

All in all it was a pleasant experience and I appreciated the contact. I don't mind them having my information because I have an incredible amount of money tied up there. It would be catastrophic if something went wrong and they could not get a hold of me.

Just be polite, converse with them, they might give you a special deal and you never know you might even learn something.

I am just afraid because they are asking me to renew a domain that I registered just yesterday. This thing made me over suspicious of everything.

Have they ever asked for your email address over the phone?
Including that assigned gentleman you know very well.

They have asked me if my account information was up to date and verified some of it.
When you hold a lot of high value domains you get to appreciate the extra layers of security.

They also send me a text and because I have google authenticator turned on I have one additional layer. It is not until all that is confirmed that we get into changing any account info and then only if required.

If you have verification turned on they will always ask you to verify who you are before getting into those type of personal details,

You have nothing to fear there and being on a mailing list is also good because once in a while you get a really good special.

GD does phone you regularly, with marketing offers. They phone whatever number is on your GD account. They call from an area code 480 number.

If you don't want to be bothered, set up some kind of VOIP line and let it always go to voice mail.
