The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
How about "ThanksToMedicalCannabisOpiateAdditionIsDown" and a few other things like the tax base..more money in city coffers for snow removal..etc etc etc

That's a fantasy that has been proven by other areas (like US states, i.e. California) who have legalized pot. The black market simply lowers prices, still allowing greater and easier access, and also provides more powerful drug alternatives. Lots of other people are growing it at home and selling on the side, as it's very tough to get a possession rap, unless you're transporting in vast bulk.

In California, their revenue projections are WAY off (they projected $ billions and made maybe 5% of that), and are so bad that a lot of voters are really pissed off. They have all the hopheads puffing away on black market or homegrown pot, and no gov't money to spend. Serves the morons right. :xf.grin:

Also, teens no longer view pot as "cool" and many have graduated to more toxic and dangerous alternatives - hopefully you know all about teenage rebellion, and it has absolutely nothing to do with walking into a store and buying something your grandfather can get. It's about pissing off your parents, doing something dangerous and anti-society, and right now that no longer includes pot and use of more dangerous drugs have increased with that age group. It's only natural and any psychologist would tell you the same thing - make pot legal and you take away its allure.

And another of the big problems they're facing is that when pot is legalized, it explodes in all sorts of food items, like candy, ice cream, cakes, pies, cookies, lollipops, etc. and lots of little kids are chomping down on these and finding their way to the local hospital or in some cases, the morgue.

You are woefully misinformed.

You are woefully misinformed.

LOL, really? Just go to Google and type in "California Pot Revenues lower" and see what pops up.

You have to realize that this legalization of pot was never done to get higher tax revenues, but to allow Big Tobacco to morph into Big Marijuana - in the US the tobacco industry is spending billions lobbying States to legalize ganja so they can get into the "kid/young adult market" (and lose their dying adult/seniors market for traditional cigarettes) that is violently opposed to tobacco but will smoke a joint at a moment's notice.

I just posted CanadianRunning(dot)ca in the cctld section 6 whole views it's listed for a low price i think it's a great Geo Keyword domain perfect for a magazine. any thougths on the value?

I would have thought it would get some response but might just be me and partial to some domains.

I think it is a good name for the end user you mention (or a reference site that for example had links to all the 10k/marathon etc events across the country, or indeed an umbrella for running clubs. I think the challenge with any Canada/Canadian is that the potential market is smallish, and you have to find someone wanting to start something that fits the name. Odds are just higher when a global extension like com/net/org or even some of the ngTLDs.

I can't provide a very firm estimate re price. I see that in .ca on NameBio there are just three sales starting with the word Canadian. When the second word is cannabis it just sold for $450, but with a second word dream and personals it sold for more than $2000. I would think somewhere low-mid $$$ to low $$$$ is the right retail price, but the challenge is finding an end user. The fact that the name is available to hand register in.org will limit some of the end use possibilities or price.

A name likes this strikes me as prime for limited development. Has anyone taken a .ca like this and invested a bit of time in getting a 2 to 10 page website up and running, and then tried to sell that to someone who sees how they can make it better?

Unless a huge number are not getting reported to NameBio, the health of .ca resale concerns me. Best of luck with the name, @dancarlson!

Clearly today is what it is. I think a lot of balanced and supported insight in this editorial from a few days ago from the Canadian Medical Association, and hopefully policy makers will take it into account.

http://www.cmaj.ca/content/190/41/E1218

I realize the link to this thread is perhaps tenuous, but after seeing the discussion earlier in thread re harmful/positive effects, I thought it was relevant. And of course canna related domain names have been a hot trend in .ca including by many on NPs.

The call for proper monitoring and research to evaluate the effects, and being open to changes in legislation, are the most important points.

Same here, and while I know there are a ton of smaller sales that go unreported, the major ones have been severely lacking of late.

I also think it's a combination of Canucks being cheaper and less informed than our American brethren, and really not understanding the value of a good domain.

One great example of this is a L'Esprit Sport Rehabilitation. I can remember seeing lesprit.ca on the TBR list maybe a year ago, and looking to see what companies used that name. L'Esprit Sport Rehabilitation came up as the top search result, but after doing some additional digging, I found out they were the original owners (!!) and used lesprit.ca previously, but let it drop to switch to physio-montreal.ca.

What the hell? Dropping a prime brandable like L'Esprit for a mangled and hyphenated pile of crap like physio-montreal.ca?

Obviously these guys thought they were still living in 2000 and got convinced by someone that hyphenated keyword stuffing was still a thing (it isn't and searching "physio + montreal" in Google doesn't even get them on the first page), even going so far as to drop their premium lesprit.ca domain, which is essentially their brand.

These are the people you are trying to sell to, many of which have no idea of proper online branding, SEO and overall corporate identity.

Just registered promaple(dot)ca and can you believe the com is in full use by a candian service without them registering the ca? Man whoever their iT guy is he should get demoted for that.

Wow, only 66 names taken, with MyID.ca taking 5 out of the top 7 - maybe everyone else just gave up?.

1. muchfact.ca
2. wage.ca
3. taxproblems.ca
4. invasion.ca
5. ygt.ca
6. freethinkingfilmfest.ca
7. longterm.ca
8. jessicanailsupply.ca
9. medi-cal.ca
10. energysaver.ca

I would have loved to pick up WAGE.CA, and while I liked INVASION.CA as a word, I had no idea it would go that high, simply due to the lack of business uses.

KingLeaf.ca

Please provide proof of your erroneous and woefully misinformed statement.

Kalm.ca

And you have to remember that this marijuana legalization fad is new and we're just at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to drug-induced-foods - marijuana is the tamest one, but many little kids have died or been physically/mentally damaged from eating anything they get their little hands on.

Here are more where the young child was taken to the hospital, and while they didn't die, I hardly cite that as a positive:

https://komonews.com/news/local/tac...-ate-marijuana-candy-offers-warning-to-others

Listen, you seem to be emotionally attached to the ganja, so it probably isn't best to discuss anything further with you, as all I get are insults to my intelligence and anger.

I have never insulted you. In any case this is not related to domain names and I'm stopping now.

Welcome to Legalization: Raising the bar from gateway drugs to gateway laws..

But seriously, I'm not sure how the black market could lower prices except by sacrificing quality.. it's not cheap to cultivate this stuff.

Stigma over this will take a long time clear. We can get away with it with domain names, but the actual deed has many, many biases towards it still.

Fantastic to see 3 .ca on the top 20 country code list on the DNJournal weekly sales list, with as well as ar.ca sales of Playground and BlackMarket as well. I see all 3 are listed as UnicDomains sales.

Re ar.ca I see that they currently have it redirecting to their pre-existing .com. Am I right that Arca Funds are not Canadian (their Twitter feed says Los Angeles). If so, this must be one of the very few non-Canadian organizations that upgrade to a .ca from a .com? I presume they have connections for their Canadian presence.
