Registrar suggestions for domains names currently registered at GoDaddy welcomed.

I see Epik is quite active on the forums so that might be my first inclination...thoughts?

Thanks in advance...

Epik & Namesilo are great imo. (y)

I use godaddy discount club and have hundreds of domains there. I will be transferring another 300 there by years end.

Do I like their prices - not really
Are they better than the rest - nope

Does most everyone have a godaddy account - yup, bingo

For me I am forever transferring or pushing domains and I just find it terribly convenient to use godaddy. I pay a bit more for that convenience but it's worth it in time saved. I look at time as being my most valuable asset.

That said their two factor security is highly customizable and it gives me confidence my high value domains are secure.

Namesilo and Dynadot here, I could be persuaded to try Epik out.

Here are the special Epik bonus offers valid through end-October:

(1) Fund your new Epik account this week with bank transfer, PayPal, or BTC, and we'll add a 5% bonus

(2) Transfer your .COM domains for just $6.49 -- $2 off the normal price through October 31, 2018

Quick comments here on Epik security:

- We offer 2-factor SMS, Google Authenticator for 2-factor.

- We offer the option of managing an IP allow list, i.e. the specific IPs that are allowed to login.

- We offer free MaxLock, meaning that even if your account is compromised, domains don't leave.

- Privacy is also free which mitigates risk of identity theft and reduces spam and malware distribution.

As for transfers in and out, they are near instant. Other than the initial 60 days of a domain registration which ICANN regulates, domains are allowed to transfer in and out at Epik without excess friction.

For the record, we have yet to lose a customer domain.

@robepik

Does Epik partner with sedo and afternic so that we can opt in our names with bins and have them show up in the reg path at goDaddy and other registration sites/?

Yes, we are on the Sedo and Afternic MLS. It is easy to cross-list your inventory in both places and also activate fast-transfer if you are pricing domains as buy now.

That's a huge asset and one of the reasons I'm at godaddy, I have no time to maintain accounts across several platforms, especially when dealing with hundreds of domains.

Epik is going to be on my list to check out.

I tried namesilo but found their control panel to be cumbersome to use.

Hi Rob, is there a tutorial on the Epik site for listing Epik based names on Sedo and Afternic?

If you list Epik-registered domains to your account as buy now domains at Sedo or Afternic, you should get an automatic email confirmation from Epik where you can bulk approve your MLS listings. If you get stuck, PM me and will coach you along. Sedo and Afternic can help with bulk operations if this is for a portfolio.

Ok, thanks. It has been so many years since I did anything with sedo, it will be interesting to log on there again!

I think the answer to the OP depends on the following factors (among others)....
  • Are you mainly into legacy or are ngTLD important in your portfolio?
  • Is it important to have a marketplace at the registrar?
  • How big is your portfolio, and how important is the interface quality?
  • Are Afternic and/or Sedo MLS important to you?
  • Do you push to non-domain savvy end users, and how important is it that they recognize the company?
  • What other features are important to you and included?
  • Are tiny price differences important to you?
That being said, I agree with the ones that have been listed in this thread.

I think the first question should be... why do you want to transfer away from GoDaddy? And second what do you like/dislike about GoDaddy (if not covered by the first question). Thirdly, maybe. What are you wanting to achieve by this move. It's very difficult to answer your question realistically without knowing these facts. There are a lot of good points about the registrars recommended so far. But it could be your best option is to just stay with GoDaddy.

The first question is why do you want to leave? If it’s for cost most places have GoDaddy beat on that front with a better price that includes privacy. I have names scattered but my favorite is NameSilo or Dynadot.

All good questions. I think especially the third question is important. It is always important to list the pros and cons of any action (including your time in learning a new system, for example). Your time horizon and number of domains are also relevant. If you have 2 domains and hope to sell them asap, then it might not be worth the effort in savings that it would be if you have a large portfolio and plan to hold many for a decade.

@richasis can you provide a bit more background re why you are planning to move them?

As a general point I think more often on NPs it would be helpful if those starting a post looking for advice provided a bit more background detail, which would help the responses be more focussed and helpful.

Through end-October, we are doing .COM transfers at below cost at $6.49, all-inclusive, with an additional year of registration as is standard for .COM transfers. There is no limit.

I have 99% of my portfolio @ GoDaddy. They have good service via Premier Services department, if you qualify. Their prices are competitive with DDC. They offer security features like 2 stage authentication and DTVS.

Most importantly to me pretty much all end users have heard of GoDaddy. Most have GoDaddy accounts. It makes dealing with end users far easier and more effective and is also a source of many potential leads because of their market share.

With that said, GoDaddy is not for everyone. I have heard good things about NameSilo.
