Hey there,

I was pretty frustrated that I couldn’t find macOS dropcatching sofware which i can use for not-dot-coms or to overtake hand-registering while I was out. I asked Robert from Worbee.com to help me build a simple backordering app for macOS. We didn’t sleep for a few nights and made a simple Dynadot API based app. It sends automated requests to register a chosen domain name. It keeps trying again and again after every single response from Dynadot API. It's working great if you even have dynamic IP (like me), you just need to whitelist your new IP in Dynadot.

In order to keep track of installations and to be able to send product updates (if any :xf.laugh:) we created a simple form to download our free software: https://mailchi.mp/621e94babf18/backorderingsoftware.

On average, it took 0.72s between two requests.

Hello ivbran,

It is sometimes difficult to find tools for macOS, and we appreciate you taking the time to share this with the community.

I don't have a macOS, but I would be interested in hearing how well this proggy works. :)
Could we get some reviews on it, please?

@Tom K

@DanSanchez
@anantj
@creataweb
@Rxshow
@ikumar
@Violets

Thank you.

Peace,
Kenny

Thanks for stopping by, @Kenny. I am looking forward to to hear some reviews as well.

Anyway, we are almost ready with Windows version as well, and will be happy to share our beta. Whoever is interested to try it on Windows, just reply bellow and don't forget to mention your OS: Mac or Windows.

Cheers,
ivbran

I'm interested in Windows.
Are you aware of any limitation on requests? I mean, is there any danger that Dynadot would consider my repeating requests as attack of some kind?
Any plans for other APIs? Namecheap? Porkbun?

Hey tupungato,

The only limit we are aware of is that you must wait for a response to your request before sending another. Failing to do this will result in a 10 minute ban. Our software is compliant with this requirement. More info here: https://www.dynadot.com/community/blog/getting-the-most-out-of-api.html

I am sending you the link of the beta, let us know if you find any bugs and if you get any luck in drop-catching :)

Cheers,
ivbran

Hey all,

I am Robert from WorBee, @ivbran mentioned above.

I am curious to hear your comments and suggestions. Is there anything that does not work as you need it or do you want some other features?

The App is quite simple at this point, which was our goal, but I'm sure it would benefit from some bells and whistles.
Let me know here in comments below or via DM.

Robert

I gave it a spin. Attempted to dropcatch some domains, but was unsuccessful so far. Probably caught by someone else.

One feature I miss so far is catching multiple domains at the same time. Some (or maybe most?) TLDs drop their daily pack of domains at a certain time of day. So, there is this 15-30 minutes slot when I want to be catching multiple names.
I don't know if I'm somehow limited by API. Should there be like multiple simultaneous bots, or maybe a rotating list of domains?

Hi @tupungato

Мe and @ivbran were successful with some domains, but success rate will depend on how many people (and services) are trying to catch that same domain as well as your dynadot API rang (the more you spend on their platform, the faster they will server your App requests). For premium and competitive domains you should probably use dropcatch or namejet. We created this software for overtaking hand-registering and for non-.coms.

Sending register requests for multiple domains and using multiple bots is not possible as this is limited by API.

I used it to potentially compete with hand reggers for some semi-attractive .info domains that I'd say are not worth Dropcatch/Namejet fees.

Very interested in testing out the macOS version! Have been searching for a Mac dropcatching solution for some time, so glad you guys built this out!

There are other investors competing for .info as well, but good thing is that I see many of the catches are made via Dynadot API (or their backorder system, which i doubt). Here is what i just catched minutes ago:

Code:
1Fetching domain info for xxx1.info
1Domain info fetched. Status: Available Price: undefined
1Domain registration bot started for xxx1.info
25Not available
6system_busy
1Domain registration bot stopped
1Fetching domain info for xxx2.info
1currently processing another request from this account
1system_busy
1Domain registration bot started for xxx2.info
6account banned for 10 minutes due to abuse
1Domain registration bot stopped
1account banned for 10 minutes due to abuse

So I actually managed to get myself banned for 10 minutes ;)

@tupungato
It happened because of the Dynadot API limit for one request at a time. In your case, when you requested domain info, Dynadot still had not returned response to last request from the registration bot. We are aware of this issue, and are working on it.

To avoid this in the future, make sure to wait either for one new log entry after your last action or give it 20s so that you are fairly sure there is no pending request on Dynadot side.

Another .info just caught by me.
As you can see, our software sent 1809 register requests to Dynadot API and the 1810th request was successful!

Their servers were holding up well today.
Sometimes they get too busy, which is why you might get: system_busy or unexpected_error.
