BTC has always lead the broader market. There needs to be a decoupling, where ideas with real functions/platforms start to work. While the 'store of value' idea for bitcoin fades away, others can rise and fall independently of it, other coins will find a more fair value, without so much blind hype backing them..

That and, BTC is still the 'entry' into other cryptos, as most places sell BTC for fiat, which is used to buy the other cryptos. That's all it has going for it, IMO. Others do what BTC wishes it could do better.

There is free money in unlimited quantities, but it doesn't circulate. It is used for manipulation purposes. You add money into system, it remains as your money and prices go up. And you eliminate that money, which is not a loss at all, and screw investors this way, and reduce liquidity in the market. And people who have less money sell their land and gold for cheap, or need to get money from your own private bank as debt. So you control people at the end. You have 1000 trillion, all the rest have 100,000 debt. Total money is zero, but noone is hungry, but people are in control. This is my theory explaining the financial system.

^The federal reserve banks were a well thought out scam, going back ~100 years to steal all real assets from citizens. It blows most ppls minds to imagine this was all planned, and still working even today. Once hyperinflation takes hold, it will become more clear to all, as people lose everything at a very fast pace. People can't bring themselves to believe the original intent was to gain control of everything. They want to believe it was a well intention idea. Cannot realize the depth of planning and the extent of deceit that goes on. NO ONE understands everything that is our financial system.

It's hardly a "new economics", but rather, new methods of value storage/ownership/transfer.

Early days still, and we don't yet know which will be the winning digital currency(ies).

Something will be though. Paper money and credit cards are very recent inventions, and they seem to have proven.... "quite popular" ;)

What is driving the prices up?

There is limited amount of crypto currency, unlimited amount of fiat currency. Governments keep printing fiat money as they spend the money that they don't have.

This can happen only in small markets or small local markets such as coffee prices in Brazil, but the prices will go equilibrium (will reinstate) shortly. So the manipulator will hardly make economic profit if he has not enough money to buy substantial amount of merchandise that is for sale in the given market. Plus the manipulator should not sell those merchandise quickly, should keep to construct "the new normal price level". This isn't an easy thing. Because in a free market economy everything has a cost and markets are open to new comers. If you have lots of money you may float prices in small markets but making profit from it depends on luck.

Only governments have unlimited amount of money to affect overall prices. If you explain financial system by money supply, this is mostly correct. But it's done only by governments, namely by central banks in a good harmony with treasury-trade-tax-employment and other financial departments/ministries.

US/West manipulates many commodity prices. For example to manipulate gold price, invents a parallel system where there is potentially infinite amount of gold and dollars. And buying and selling these virtual gold with virtual money, gold price is manipulated. Others seem to have allowed this so far. But oil price cant 'be manipulated equally easily, because it is a fundamental necessity. If Opec and Russia jointly decide to increase or decrease oil price, what can US do about it?: Not much.

even though US has many powerful means to prevent such cooperation attempts against to its interests, it can't always succeed (i.e., import tax wars with China and other countries will eventually harm the US economy). However both of us seem like agree on that price manipulations can happen if it's done by governments. If we come back to crypto discussion, this is particularly important. Because you can manipulate prices only in fiat. because fiat supply is infinite, also it's impossible track paper money movements. If everything was priced in crypto, changing the prices artificially would be more difficult, also inflation would be extinct. Governments need inflation as it's just another tax.
