Good luck with your sales!

z/i/d/d./i/n - Sold this to a new-age healthcare giant in India for 1111USD. Hand regged this for 8$ to build my personal blog on. Got a cold email from the client expressing interest to buy this for 135$. Had a good couple of hours with them over a call, told them will think about it and emailed them a counter offer for 1500$. Finally settled for 1111$ after another hour long call with their marketing and product guys.

I suggested Escrow but they wanted to transfer directly to my bank account. Big leap of faith for a large corporation. This happily funded my next portfolio acquisition and then some. :-D

Good experience for my first sale.
Congrats! Great first sale! And even more greater is that you managed to reject a quick xxx cash and to stay for your price. Respect!

Hey @ivbran, like any good salesperson, I was listening most of the time ;)

They needed the domain for a new product line they were launching for a Bollywood movie. I had 3 marketing folks on the call explaining why their budget was low compared to my offer. The conversation included what exactly they were doing and the scale at which they were doing at. I prefer a consultative sales process. Ask open ended questions and sit back and take in as much information as possible.

I then made up some calculations to justify my price point. This was a limited period project for around 4 months. They would've been able to get a better price if they'd leased out the domain, but I guess they never knew about that model and I wasn't one to make them wiser. B-)
As soon as you heard "for their new Bollywood movie," you should've stuck to $1500. . .

That's some very specific outbound targetting. Is this all recent or over a long spread of time. Hold time and any info on outbound technique would be very helpful.

Its very difficult to explain to companies in india regarding domain value and price. Most won't bother to make a business on a really crappy domain.

Curious about your strategy/approach for pitching a company that owns the .com to buy the .io ??

Risk a big part of the game and maybe $99.00 not big money to lose for some!

Nice sale @ Judgemind

I’ve sold to this particular individual in the past. It was a simple email to him:

Would you be interested in purchasing this domain name

His initial offer was $350, I countered at $1500 and eventually we agreed that $1,000 was a fair price for the domain.

This game is all about risk imo.. I’ve invested $3,000 in a domain name which I flipped in under 2 months for $23,000...

Other examples of some non .com I’ve flipped:

Airline.net - $900 to $7550
BoxOffice.net - $655 to $8100
Carpool.net - $550 to $3000

In the past two years I’ve sold over $35,000 of .io domains, the extension is very popular within the tech industry and for startups. The past year, many crypto related startups have gone with the .io

My investment in this name was not only because I was going to try to sell it to the .com owner, it’s a strong name with many potential buyers. $99 investment is not much imo.
