Hello, great domainers in the house, I want to know if showcasing of domain names, in social media sites, like Instagram, help in promoting sales. Because I see most domains on Instagram and Facebook, showcasing there domain names.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Not tried the likes of Instagram or FB but Twitter works well for me, and drives a steady stream of daily hits to my Portfolio.

For marketing on Twitter - you first need to get involved in Twitter. Start following other domainers - comment on their posts. Post meaningful tweets so others start following you. Have a website or use Undeveloped or other portfolio site where people can buy your names. Then, every once in a while, promote one of your domains on Twitter - use good hashtags (and hopefully you have gained many followers as well). I have found absolutely zero response from promoting on Instagram. Good Luck!

I scheduled my first Facebook post for tomorrow morning to mention one of my names and going to give it a shot. My page has 10k+ followers BUT... FB algorithm hit it hard last 30 days for whatever reason. Hard to even get 30k post views a week now vs the 250-350k post views :(

Best possible advertisement of investing in a good domain name for any business as the centerpoint of any online marketing strategy vis a vis social media where your investment is at the mercy of operators and their ever changing... algorithms :banghead:

Facebook, showcasing there domain names.
A lot of my facebook pages are my domain names, like every other social media, I don't spam (over post) that the name is for sale, I added plenty of content (usually viral)! Plus having a Facebook page with followers adds value to a domain...
Just my thoughts!

@Domains - Wanted other than the advantages of pages, FB advertising is cheaper than adwords, even Twitter is (at least for me)

Not saying to not promote / advertise in social media. Just saying that a business should be anchored on a domain web address (or multiple domains), not on FB or any other third party that can change rules on a whim, totally screwing up results of months or years of your hard work. It's a good domain marketing point, I think (working on a new landing pages concept here) :sneaky:

Yes , depending on the business , a website (landing page etc). is a must! Landing page then social media.

The OP question was about asking about showcasing his domains (promoting) his name on social media so he/she can get sales! Some domainers do not develop their names, they try to sell them on Sedo/Godaddy/Dynadot/etc, and also some of these domainers on Social media1

A landing page can be succe$$ful if SEO is done properly but SEO (you are also depending on 3rd parties, Googlem Bing, etc) is more difficult than SMM (Social Media Marketing)..

Just my thoughts..

I suspect that it depends on the niche, and that some sorts of domains are more likely to find interested end users on social media than others. Domains that might be applicable to celebrities, bloggers, influencers, the artistic community, and nonprofits might be more likely to benefit from social media in my opinion.

Personally I have never tried Facebook, Pinterest, or LinkedIn with respect to my domain activities. I do see LinkedIn as a very valuable potential way to interact, and know a number on NPs that use it effectively.

I do use Twitter a bit for attempted promotion. If you do this I think it is really important to do it in a restricted fashion, and to make sure that you tweet valuable and interesting other material, and only occasionally about a domain name that you have personally. People that just tweet name after name with link where it is for sale I stop following. I think using graphics and ideally some creative approach is helpful.

I sold a new extension domain last month for low $$$ that I believe (not completely sure) had interest from end user start because I had mentioned this particular name in my blog a few weeks earlier. While you should not use your blog only to push names, if you are writing on something related to the domain name, it is a possible way to get some exposure.

So I see value in blog + Twitter + LinkedIn, but only when done sparingly, creatively, professsionally and somewhat indirectly!

Would love to hear from someone who posts regularly to Twitter, if its working for them or not. I see accounts like AbleBrands -- seems like a bot that posts on a regular basis, probably pulls the tweet description from a database or text file. DarnGoodDomains seems to do similar... There are others too..

Wonder if they are members here - would like to hear if they're efforts are paying off or not.

The accounts can be using something like "Hootsuite" where you can schedule posts on multiple sites..not a recommendation, just a example!

I can do the same thing on FB cause my Twitter is connected...

I use twitter just for the traffic (views) ..no sales sale or offers YET!

One of the annoying things about twitter is the auto-following bots when you tweet with a certain hashtag. However the extra exposure you can gain through it is nice, considering it's free. People are very visual though so make sure you either create a graphic or an accompanying image to go along with it..

Hi all, I've just stumbled across this thread as I was looking to see if anyone had previous experience in using their social media (twitter mostly) to market domains with any success. I hope nobody minds me opening this one up again rather than creating a new one. How has it been going for everyone?

I have tried to start a twitter from scratch for extra exposure as I'm pretty new to the domain industry and you have to start somewhere! 5 days in and only one follower!! The username is @fra19961 feel free to check it out.

Thanks

I just followed you! It is a good idea to mix informative tweets and retweets so your stream is not mainly a series promoting your own domains (some say at most 1 in 10 should be promotional. You could include a link to your domain site in your Twitter profile. It can be slow to get a following, but keep at it and it will happen.
Best wishes,
Bob

Thank you @Bob Hawkes as a respected member here is great to have you as a follower! I have found it is slow and takes up more time than you think but hopefully it’ll get there eventually.
