Hi,

There is a domain that someone owns that they aren't using. I would like to reach out them but it's not being sold on any site and there whois has all the privacy redacted.

How can I get in touch with them?

Thank you!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Try contacting the registar of the domain (you can also e-mail the whois listed email address. Lots of privacy services/registrars forward it to the original owner

Try send to the private Whois email address and wait, most of them forwards to the original email.

I woldn't hold my breath after emailing the domain privacy email :nailbiting:

Check the domains's registrar landing page (if there is one) carefully. Smart registrars, GoDaddy for one, show a link to a contact form for those interested in acquiring the domain. They charge a fee for using this service, but it's a surefire way of getting your message across to the registrant.

Other ways of finding out who is (or was) the registrant of the domain:

- Wayback Machine (www.archive.org) - there may be recent websites with contact details archived...

- DomainTools.com paud subscription - to look through archived WHOIS data. There may be other similar, free or less costly services.

Good luck! :xf.smile:

Thanks everyone - sent through whois will see what happened. This person has had the same basically empty website for 15 years so may be rough getting it from them.

As a domain registration provider myself, I would advise against contacting the registrar for contact information. If the customer is paying for privacy protection, the registrar is not going to undermine their own services by providing information that the customer is paying to block unless you have some kind of court order.

However as others have already mentioned, the privacy information in the whois section usually does forward to a legitimate address.

Some registrars forward inquiries to domain owners without revealing the owner's contact info. This is still a good avenue to get in touch with the domain owner

Check if they have any twitter or facebook account related to that domain. You might get the information at any forum or a business directory.

If it was for sale there would be contact info. If you are trying to buy something that's not for sale, be ready to pay inflated price.
