question Guess how many domains in the Alexa 1m are [.com]

Just queried my table of the top 1 million websites in the world.

Guess how many are .com out of 1m.

The prize is I'll announce you as a winner in bold font if you are the closest.

Will announce in 12 hrs.

(note my data table was compiled a year or so ago, the Alexa top 1m is always changing. Just a bit of fun)

The # of [.com] domain names in the Alexa 1 million database I have is.. 480,519.

As mentioned, this data was compiled ~1 year ago.

Thanks so much for the contest, @MarketingStrategies.com and @deez007 for the very close guess! I actually had thought my guess would be a bit low, but it turned out to miss by being a bit high.

Also interesting to see the top 1000. Certainly com seem to dominate the very top more than apparently they do the overall 1M, which is not surprising I guess. Does anyone know of a site that shows how many of each of the main country code are in the 1M?

the attachment only has the top 1000 .com names, ~62% of the Alexa top 1000 are .com.

If coincidentally it is a tie, by adding 0.01 you have ensured that you will NOT win.

The benefit of that probability can be nullified by the equal probability of the case when "it was a tie of the prediction, but the actual result was lower"

Moreover if you are betting for a number higher then change your prediction number by 1 not 0.01.
By adding 0.01 you are only reducing your chances of winning. you have more chances of winning without 0.01 (or at least a rare chance of tie)

Am I right?

Your observation and post (I'm waiting on official ruling from the contest founder and originator on this issue-don't want nullify any future guesses I may have) brings a classic song to mind...
