Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

Thinking with all this publicity that this auction got, (if possible to renew) , would do that!

The answer on that is maybe, meaning when the auction starts at day 25 after expiry they can still renew but partway through the auction at day 30 they lose the ability to renew (and the ability to transfer out, which used to be possible post-auction). But they could at that point bid in the auction

https://ie.godaddy.com/help/renewing-my-expired-domain-name-609
Day 25 Domain is put up for domain name auction. You can manually recover your expired domain name or place a bid on the domain name through auction.

Day 36 If there are no backorders and no bidders in the domain name auction, we list the domain name in a final closeout auction. You can place a bid on the domain name through auction. This is the final chance to register the domain name before it is returned to the registry.

re renwal after expiration:
If a domain name registered with us after May 2, 2005 expires, we automatically list it for auction on GoDaddy Auctions® 25 days later. You can bid on any expiring domain name listed at GoDaddy Auctions.

The current registrant can reclaim the domain name from redemption up to 30 days after expiration. If the current registrant renews the domain name, we cancel the auction and refund any bids.

The buyer of The 420 Times dot com needs content which they don’t have.
OMG. You are really totally SEO ignorant. Just like the one who let this domain drop. Ever heard 301? Hint: no, it's not 420-119.

Ever heard 301?
Just to help out any newbies or learner domainers, or anyone mystified by some unattractive domain names selling at high prices in auctions or dropcatching, people put xxxx values on domains with lots of (hopefully good) links to them because they can 301 redirect them to another domain so the second domain's website gets a big boost in search results.

Normally if you move a site to a new domain you redirect all the old domain's links to the new site, to working pages, to keep the SEO value and any traffic. Not doing that is frankly stupid - it is throwing away money, and dropping the old domain is exposing you to a number of threats. But people often do not understand, or refuse to understand, the risks in throwing away a domain they have used. A bit like throwing away a hard drive.

Comfortleaf.com$950
Leafcomfort.com$ 50
$1000 sold Godaddy
My sale

This is I where I think Leaf is at. $1000 to $3000. I will sell in this range.

Thankfully I have another 1000 + ( in Leaf ), most of comparable quality or better. The rest of my inventory is spread between canna, weed, pot, 420, mmj, mj, hemp, and herb, cannabis and marijuana. The industry is just at its infancy. I project steady sales and a increased demand and prices, although in the range formentioned until the trend catches on and more permitts become available, and things like Pet Care, Coffee, Smoothies, and independent retail stores on street level not connected to a multi national agri business in Cannabis take hold.

Just my thoughts...420Jolt..(etc) cannabis infused drink.
General rule of thumb that I use is main keyword first..

Yes @Leafurl sure has been a asset to this thiread..he know his busine$$!
Thanks for the input Briguy. While 420Jolt was and still is available to register vs. Jolt420, my experience and opinion is what sounds the best like Colt45 or Indy500. I did notice that GD's appraisal system appraised all my "420" domains higher when 420 came after the name and not before it. That said, thanks for your feedback and sharing your opinion.

I don't trust appraisals. Means little twords the future. It only is a now metric.

And now, I actually had a bunch of inquiries and a okay sale this week. A multinational pet chain actually inquired on a pet domain in Leaf.

If I listened to anyone on Leaf and or my domain portfolio I'd simply become depressed at times. Few would even understand that I would sell out a canna and or weed domain to maintain my roi on Leaf.

I literally would drop many of my names onto a storefront in Photoshop and think hmm does this work? Did this on chip bags and edible cookies too. How is a evaluation on GD going to do this. Or 420Jolt ( buy both)that would look awesome on a beer tap.

Was at a bar last night watching the Browns obsessing over beer taps, thinking hmm how would Leafizz be applied , It's a example of my obsession. Conclusion a light fresh fizzy drink ( with thc )like a Savignon Blanc on tap with a fruity fizz. Leafizz, low calorie light 0 hangover.

I started in this industry ( 30 years in cut flowers prior as a grower and marketing guy in floriculture ) but only a few years ago on domains and enviorment controls. A few years ago few even had a chance to own and or enter this industry ( cannabis )legally. I'm heavy into Cea ( controlled enviorment agriculture ), remember explaining to a Trademark court on a Leaf brand, how people will in the future grow food ( and marijuana) in controlled environments. They were like what? This was just 2 years ago. I won the trademarks after substantial legal fees. My $375 a hour legal team did a major breakdown on Leaf, and the trademarks in play. I then was like huh? Game on

To see Cronos quadruple in value on some dream, Corona, Smirnoff, and Coke all in the last few weeks, should give all of us substantial confidence.

As well as a ton of new movement in new states. New Jersey, recreational as a open dialage in the midterns.

Its happening

Interesting..coming after the keyword! Guess there are exception to my "rule of thumb" ..

Curious, how do you say out loud , "420" ..is it 4-2-0 or 4-twenty?

4-twenty

Except for 420 day festivals, 420 isn't really used too much by users. It only relates to recreational use and has a 'stoner' connotation. Not used to describe medical or hemp. The longer cannabis is legal, the less I see it referenced.

Thanks!
Yeah, I registered a few "420's" before I knew better, (Google alerts helped my learning curve)!

But been "branding" a few like 420Gangsta/420Java/420Laws/420Alberta (all "dot"ca's )

Being a non domain person I feel it's best too sell as much in the category as not to get jacke ( for the end user )

This is why you see both sales:

Comfortleaf
Leafcomfort

The sale was generated thru my own platform leafdomains.com

I didn't finish it, it's really time consuming to load in stuff and maintain it. Only some of my inventory is listed.

If anyone is interested in how I sell go into leafdomains.com and find leafcondo, print the sell sheet a pdf loads.

I do this part time, my primary job is in environmental controls.

I simply point things there, and sell depending.

Naturally I could point to westleaf expensive to grab the. Ca 21 grand worth

I also provide to buyers as best as possible Trademark knowledge and the position that the domain fills.

Hopefully this service orientated position creates better success for the enduser.

Four Twenty
Girl at club has a tattoo on her arm 419 four nineteen. I asked her what that was about, she said it means it means it's time to get ready.

Thanks @Leafurl the info you share is priceless.I have always pictured all my names on side of bus, or business card. Even though you say my GreenLeafTherapy is to long, I see others booking net org even .ca

And @Keith people here seem to like your attitude about as much as mine, however once you posted canna was the word, way back, I keyed on it, ya mostly .ca You are very smart man, I read every word you say.

My .ca I have about 30 canna names and also DontDoDrugs.ca cannas, cannawell, cannavalley, cannacountry canna'flora, brothers, daddy, sisters Shoppe.Fair amount grow, green names
People gonna need clones too, who wants to grow from seed. Pots, soil
75% of my 180 domains are cannabis related. To bad ganja is dead i have that with 247 on the end.:xf.frown:

@Bulloney looks like your rounding into form, for a while all your shots were headed for the bunker, now your starting to drive the ball down the middle of the fairway. You were getting close to one of my golf names, and I was reading about golf and cannabis https://globalnews.ca/news/4411631/bc-golf-survey-on-marijuana/ I can totally see an indoor? mini golf called CannaPutt, hole in one gets you a bong hit:cigar:

26 days to legalize in Canada, funny thing is ounces at the club are 200-250 and i can buy same weed on street for $100 That wont change soon imo

My friend in Vancouver bought some $2 grams from https://faircannacare.com/ $56 OZ
she said it was awesome, delivered to her door
the .ca is not booked, I still can't order weed online, I want to see it and smell it first.
Time for another coffee, maybe one morning I will wake up and have a cup of java canna
DUI is my biggest fear http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/gazette/drive-high

Cops are gonna be on that early and often. It is not socially acceptable to get baked and operate a motor vehicle

I'm also waiting for a cannabis related domain to drop but since that I don't have the expertise in domaining i'll just settle with whoising the sh*t out of it in the coming days. It is pending delete now so wish me luck.

Interesting Article - UK to rely on imports to meet ‘unlicensed’ medical cannabis demand -
Marijuana Business Daily

The United Kingdom likely will lean on imports to supply unlicensed cannabis-derived products after medical marijuana becomes available by prescription later this year. A new report by a council studying medical cannabis in the U.K. advises.

Cheers

Like you Leafurl, I'm not a domainer either. However, I have been around long enough to know what you said about not trusting appraisals to be true. Most of the 50 or so appraisals I've hand registered at GD are between $1,100 and $1,600. Take CannaBizExpress at $1,446, PitchWeed at $1,233, and Jolt420 at $1,189 to name a few. I own domains in each of the pot categories because I don't know enough about any one category to load up in a specific area. GD shows a "comparable" for most of the domains that I buy, and I'll due some other research before I pull the trigger.

On another note, I live in Virginia and we've been slower than a lot of the states to legalize pot for medicinal purposes. However, I think that's about to change and very soon. I know a number of the state legislators and I think I have a pretty good feel for the pulse here. We have a Democrat Governor and he happens to be a Doctor...a medical Doctor. This topic is in my local news almost daily. It's coming, and I'm not about to miss the wave.

Thanks Leafurl.

hempfitness.com 375 USD 2018-09-21 GoDaddy

Herbalpetmeds; not even good

If this came up for renewal in my inventories I'd drop it. Guess it's time to rethink the game. Even bad three word domains may be selling in this sector. Although 95percent of my inventory is in SEO two word dot coms.

Three word; I think I have a bunch of 3 word drive thru;

Drivethruweed
Drivethruleaf
Weedrivethru

Pet care:
Leafpet
Leafvet
Leafveterniary

I think I have these, I've got to get more time into this. Apparently all sectors, Canna, Herb, Leaf, Hemp, 420, And the rest, are fielding sales and inquires including my own inventories.

420jolt: I can see it, coming soon on a beer tap near me. I've got to find a buyer for Leafizz. Fyi; one probably won't see a combination of alcohol and thc/cbds. Reason being is most states this will be controlled by a separate board from the alcohol state regulatory commissions. The difficulty of two regulatory agencies and double taxation ( alcohol and cannabis ) would be a quagmire to launch a new leafizz or 420jolt. So it will be in a beer tap but a fizzy fun drink with thc and or cbds. For those unfamiliar with the drinkable space. Cannabis fun drinks have 0 calories and almost no discernable hangover. Extract guy 5 years back said this is a billion dollar formula. A fun drink with no hangover with NO calories.

The large players will change this in some states. Carona for example. But they will leave most states to the craft brew cannabis guys I'm thinking. Lots of domains and brandables.

Question?

Anyone seen any movement on mmj ( the words) or has it become too limiting for usage in this forever evolving space hedging twords recreational legalization?

How smart is this! , just another example of the debth of domain sales in this space. Although this is a brandable most likely, like who would have ever thought of this?

To really understand how many new startups in in the future in this sector is a staggaring number.

420 isn't being used as a number in this case, it's code for "cannabis" so think of it as a noun. When you use 420 (a noun) to describe a product (Jolt, Coffee, Brownies) the "noun as adjective" always comes first.
What kind of Jolt? Cannabis Jolt. 420Jolt

Of course, that's just grammar and sometimes things work best when the rules are broken!
Kinda of my thinking but instead of " noun" (verb, adjective), main keyword (can a verb, noun, adjective etc) first, (Google search # usually decides it for me! I always say the name out loud!

Michigan to allow medical marijuana patients to register, renew online

Michigan
Things change so quickly I may not be totally accurate, but one gets the idea.
Unlimited permitts; pending city and town limits if any * and their are
500 / 1000 / 1500 plant permit
$5000 for a 500 plant permit $10k for a 1000 etc. This is a accessible market.
* I think? Theres a caregiver exemption ( this is essentially a craft and or mini permitt, get some tags ( seed to sale ) or they can get a 50 plant permitt. That's what I thought. They will have to brand too.
Plant grows * not sure about stacking ( that's where u can get a few permitts; if it be a extract and grow and or more plants stacked)
Transporter permitt
Store permitts
Edible permitts
Lab Testing Permitts

Just mine the above for domains. It's a broad regional approach with only in state money.

You will see the competitive forces of branding, price and quality. People will be required to brand if their going to survive.
This is the exact scenario I've been forecasting. All one had to do was read the legislation, the startups businesses are there if one reads thru the lines.

The law as it ended up is as close to recreational as a medical state. With I think?
A recreational initiative on the mid term ballot.
