They require ID from sellers.
There are Chinese buyers who don't visit Sedo, but visit NameJet and Godaddy. I have names for them, but NameJet requires ID. Why require ID? Are we selling stolen domains? If we have have quality aged domains of various types, and have live account at NP and and Sedo, this should be enough. We will sell domains for a few hundreds each and we have to show our ID as if we are potentially criminal people. Giving ID is worse than giving money, and still they claim their service is free. I'm boycottong them. Even if not, I can't use it, because I wouldn't give ID to anyone except govt, school, hospital, job etc.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
yeah don't use them then. let's not forget the "alleged" shill bidding too. there's a thread here about that somewhere.

I want approval as a seller only, so I won't be able to bid, if they design the system that way. I need a half account to sell only. Not a full account to bid or buy. It would be easy for them to improve their service this way.

It's ironic that you state that you would only give ID to the government because that who is requiring that companies get your ID to satisfy the government's "know Your Customer" laws

I just went to Regions Bank yesterday and there was a sign posted right on the window stating that they now not only required proper ID to cash a check, but also are required to take your thumbprint as well if you don't already have an account with them.

I made a cash deposit in person to a business partner's business account at Wells Fargo and they took my ID and recorded my ID info into their computer system to satisfy the Government's KYC laws.

The government wants to keep track of everybody and every financial transaction that takes place. This is one of many bad side effects of our post 9/11 world.

I give ID to banks, when applying for credit cards , or a new phoneline.. These are ok. Paypal doesn't require ID, and this is great. Once they insisted and I resisted. I gave alternative proof of what they needed. Asking for ID when not needed, makes fraud more likely, not less likely.

They didn't invent KYC and you're their potential customer.

Sale of domains is a financial transaction. They mostly keep the info so if the government for any wants it, they can provide it.

As @korganian stated, they are obeying the government just as you equally said you do.

Selling domains on NameJet or any other platform is a JOB :)

You personally may not, i hope, but somebody else quite possibly might. And what they should do to prevent this?

Paypal doesn't require ID
What?? This is something new. Just wait till somebody sends you some grand of bucks, then they will block your money and you'll send them your ID and everything else they ask like a good boy. And then you'll tell your fairytales about who requires ID and who doesn't.

Yes, I suspect Paypal will require ID when big money is involved. They asked for ID once, and I "convinced" them this is not needed. I may have made them feel I was ready for legal action, or waste more of their time with this. What I actually did was giving a proof without ID, and said ID is not a replacement for proof.

Sedo doesn't require ID , only requires sms verification as a critical step which can't be faked. This should be enough.

Someone should invent a crypto-id so we can prove things without showing real id.

Dropcatch, com also requires ID, and so does Flippa when you just sold a domain or website. If you want to join their platform you have to follow their rules.

Im a seller on namejet and i didn't have to submit any id, i just had to fill in a simple form and provide bank details for payment. Ive been selling with them for about a year now and had no problems, they're my preferred selling platform.

All credit card processors, including PayPal, verify your identity. This is especially because, in the U.S., if you transact over $20,000 representing over 200 separate transactions in a calendar year, all credit card processors must report the gross proceeds to the IRS - they can't report proceeds for a fictitious person or entity! they need a verified tax ID number for ya'!

It's just that PayPal lets you in the door right away, without verifying much, then verifies everything later, after you start transacting some volume, so people figure that PP is a free-for-all with no ID verification. This verification is either done behind the scenes with a credit check, or out in the open with a request for docs from you when they limit your account.

Post 9/11, the world requires ID from everyone for about everything financially related!

SO, 20K is the critical limit? I get 5K-10K via paypal, and spend all on domains again, so I have no profit to report. So it looks like I will reach the critical limit soon: 10K money in 10K money out. .. Some say income tax irs is collecting is illegal according to constitution.. Paypal verified my identity indirectly because it is connected to a bank account, but I didn't give ID myself, but they may have access to it anyway. But I would still not give it to them. If there is a big sale, money may follow a different path, and may go to someone I trust instead of me. I remember I spent over 20K in a year using a single card, and I didn't do anything about it. I didn't report it, and noone bothered me about it.

I had to do a full ID with DropCatch, even to the point of me taking a selfie holding my drivers license, no BS, I don’t have a problem with the ID process at NameJet, we can thank all name thief’s and scammers for the process we have to go through, none the less, I believe if you are going to sell within these companies, you should be as transparent as possible to potential buyers, this industry draws a lot of crooked people within it, so the more transparent, the better IMO,

I can be as transparent as possible, without giving an ID. Giving ID is invitation of identity theft. Someone may commit fraud while using my ID. And since that person gave an ID to companies, he would be trusted and allowed to commit fraud.... I think trust can be negotiated. Also some small risks can be taken to avoid waste of time.
