I don't like, generally speaking, the new gTLD, but just saying BOYCOTT!!!11!! doesn't help anyone

We actually tried to relaunch to a .network as that was an exact match of the company name that ends In network.

Switched back to .net after a month as clients would be like this:

Client: what's your email?
Me: [email protected].
Client: is that .com or .nl?
Me: no, that's .network.
Client: yeah I got that but is it like, ending in .com or .nl
Me: forget about that, drop the mail to [email protected].
Client: great, added you to my contacts.

I personally like ngtlds but I'm a geek, a nerd and love pretty urls. The average end user or client doesn't recognize them (yet) and untill they do I would advise anyone who's not a major player in their field (or a hipster Startup with way too much funds to market a domain) against using a ngtld.

No reason to boycot the second grade (Read ngtld) version of .com/net/org/cctld though.

I pretty much stopped reging anything but .com and .org domains.

I don't have the time or energy to spend first researching com and orgs for a few hours and then go on to highly speculative tld's that most people dont want anyway.

Sure, if something is in plain sight and catches my eye and is cheap, I might reg it. But I am done going through the dozens of other popular ngtlds, forget the other thousand that nobody buys. I don't get worked up trying to figure out if a keyword works with 100 other tlds and then spend time researching what that combo might sell for and who might be a potential buyer.

When I buy a good GD closeout or a snap .COM , it feels like money in the bank. When I do that with a ngtld, it feels like I just bought into some little known crypto coin that feels insecure.

As most of my ngtld's expire, I will just let them drop or sell them to some sucker that is just starting out in the game. :-P

But many of them have been around for a decade. At what point will they recognize them ? We got over a thousand TLD's and people still want .com first. I've designed websites using some clever ngtld combos and quite a few clients regret it.

I'm not sure people will ever get it. In my opinion the downfall of Ngtlds is that there are way to many of them.

If you have like, mycompany.com people will remember mycompany and the .com is obvious to them. If you'd use my.company they'd have to remember your business is mycompany, your domain is my and the extension is .company. instead of using a better domain we just made it harder for someone to remember.

Now imagine how that would work for something like ''mybanking". Mybanking? "Cool I'll check em out at mybanking.com. (net/org may work as well). Nope, not the website. Let's try mybanking.net/org. No... Not it.... Wait there was something else to it.. mybanking.com/loans.... No not it but wow, their competition has some sweet interest rates going on. Let's try mybanking.loans.com.... no... Ok, I'll try and remember their website when I pass that billboard again next week."

One week later... Driving by... It says "get started at mybanking.loans... " I wonder why they don't mention their website really big on the billboard..."

Of course this is exagerated a bit but showcases why I'm not a big fan :)

Same goes for email. When we started using a .network just over 40% of mails that were sent by using a type in for the domain was sent to either our .com/cctld/.net domain.

That being said... Maybe when domains will start to be even less important in the future ngtlds are gonna work.

Please stop promoting your meaningless names in all inappropriate threads around. Thank you

You are not supposed to renew as a domainer. Drop and buy again. If renewals remain in 2 figures, this wouldn't be a problem for endusers. Maybe we should learn how to sell a domain in 6 months.

I'm all for rise against the machine and whatnot, but at least have some juice in that meat to whet our appetites..
eg.
https://www.namepros.com/threads/lets-boycott-new-gtlds.948318/

Know the renewals b4 you register/aftermarket purchase, be smart with your investment. If you can sell it in a year, wonderful, if not and you want to hold for many years, make sure it's worth it and you can budget for it. No one's forcing you to go the new G' route, you want safety stick with the classics.

New G' pricing structure CANNOT be trusted, know this before giving your money. Boycotting will not make much of a difference, too many of us are vested deeply into them and we love the names. Besides there will always be end users looking for only that one maybe two names who won't care about renewals because they have found their perfect name. But I feel you, as domainers every year can feel like a coin toss..

And, Thankfully,,, Boycott is still available in dozens of extensions. :)
Premium priced to sell too.

it is kinda fun that you can find just about any word you never dreamed you would own. Good solid single word dot somethings. Prob your own first name available right now. And, most are not that expensive to renew.

Question,, has anyone seen one ranking on google? I have seen a few, but they are rare in the population of things. And none have been .moda .gives .toilet etc.

".CHARITY domain names will cost $49.00 USD/yr. "

Considering the cost and how most of the good ones are probably already pre-ordered, I'm not going to bother with this one.

Haven't checked but judging by the name that LLC is probably owned by donuts. They have multiple of these LLCs operating their TLDs. All with crazy company names.

Honestly, I feel like having nGTLDs are good, especially for startups. It's 2018. We like having options. We like being different. Startups are increasingly using nGTLDs to delineate/differentiate themselves from other companies, and are caring less and less about nabbing premium TLDs.

As long the domain is a one-word, or extremely topical to an industry, I've personally found it worth the risk. Don't really understand the hubbub.
