Last time when i was watching an expiring domain, it had no bids. When only one minute remained i jumped to bid with$12. The clock increments by 5min and then all of a sudden bidders come in with huge proxy bids. I lost a good domain (winning bid at low xxx).

So, the next best strategy is to avoid bidding and wait for the domain to enter closeout stage and grab it at $11 asap. So when does the domain enter this stage? Does it appear in closeout according to some timezone or it does so immediately?

Thanks for your time.

Usually a few minutes after the auction ends with no bids. By might vary. I recall a few months ago ppl were complaining that the limbo time was a few hours.

Bid when there are like 8 seconds to go. Probably the only way.

Waiting for closeouts is risky too.

Best way to know for sure is to monitor auctions that end with no bid

I was watching some auctions which i wanted to bid on. I let them expire without bids. I go to the closeout and keep refreshing for few mins but did not find the name. Meanwhile, i tried to checked its whois and to my horror the expiration date has been increased by a year and the updated date is the current date.

So it means that someone got it earlier than me. How is it possible or i am wrongly deducing the conclusion?
