For domain investors with hundreds or thousands of names in their portfolios, management of those domains can be difficult. From ensuring all names are renewed to changing nameserver settings, doing this thousands of times across different registrars can be time consuming.

This is why many domainers opt to consolidate their domains to one registrar in particular. There are many choices for registrars, and it can be difficult to select a specific registrar. Sometimes it can come down to simply registrar features, prices or existing relationships with registrar staff.

Investors that consistently buy names via auctions can have hundreds of names at varying registrars. NameJet domains tend to go to eNom, whilst DropCatch domains tend to move to NameBright. Whilst these may not be an individual investor’s proffered registrar, eventually these names may be moved to a registrar of choice.

Our poll this week asks whether you are consolidating all of your names to one specific registrar? You may be in the process of doing this for the first time, or you may have been consistently moving new purchases to a preferred registrar for some time.

From a personal perspective, I have moved all of my domains to Uniregistry aside from several .CO.UK names which remain registered at GoDaddy.

James, Can I ask why Uniregistry are there any particular features you prefer over the other registries? Is it pricing etc etc

I've consolidated down to two but I have so many at both of them that moving to one is almost out of the question. With so many domains to move it would be a weeks project to consolidate them.

I'm leaning more and more to godaddy and have about half my domains there for no other reason than it's easy to push to other domainers. I pay more with godaddy but everyone has an account there so transactions just seem to go smooth whenever I need to do a quick deal.

Same, most of mine are at Godaddy for a similar reason - they seem to be the most recognised name for potential buyers so in my mind it's worth the little extra.

I do also hold a few at Uniregistry.

From another hand, it's better not to keep all eggs in one basket... Very true for all aspects of business. And here, with our main asset - domains, where we are totally dependent on some 3rd parties... Let's go figure what will happen tomorrow with what registrar. Better to spread the risks a bit.
DropCatch domains tend to move to NameBright
Right, wherever else?

60% of portfolio is at one Registrar 40% spread about elsewhere. Ideally I’d like to have all in one place but not going to pass up on transfer deals.

Hi James,
I have had dealings with a few registrars in the past, but my loyalties lie with only one. NameSilo. All my domains are with them now. They offer me everything I need from a registrar. They offer very reasonably priced registrations in especially dot coms, which I am only interested in. Their support is absolutely second to none, and their commission is an amazing 7.5%. When I'm treated that well, I don't walk away.

I am transferring domains from other registrars to NameSilo, DynaDot, and Name.com.

It makes things way easy to have most names at one place, but it is smart to spread domains around in the event changes in terms, pricing etc. causes a rethink regarding one or more provider.

I only use three: Epik, NameSilo, and Godaddy.

Yes and no.

I am consolidating, but not into 1. For now, it is 2. I am giving up on deals etc to reduce admin load. And paying to transfer right away rather than keeping in another register.

Currently, I have about 1300 names with GD and about 400 with Dynadot. I chose the latter because it has access to both GD fast transfer and Sedo MLS and the deal they were running with $6.99.

Yes. I have been doing this for years. It makes management far easier.

I have my domains at 10 various registrars around the globe. 2 main reason for that:
1) not good to have all assets in 1 basket, so to speak
2) new gTLD extensions are priced totally differently at various registrars - registrar which is great option for one gTLD extension can be horrible option for another gTLD extension...pricing varies so much...

Mainly 2 of them. Some names are scattered at others due to pricing differences.

I consolidate at Epik and my second favorite is Uniregistry. I'm trying NameSilo right now. I've recently experienced the fastest NS change in NameSilo. I don't know the reason but it was very fast and just wanted to mention.

What do you pay at GoDaddy? Where do you pay less?

GD and Name.com for me.

Same for me. Vast majority of portfolio at GD, a few at Name.com

I will periodically do a sweep and transfer all acquired domains sitting at "random" registrars over to GD.
Except for those at some of the terrible registrars, which I transfer on day 61 after acquisition.

I am in the godaddy discount club and get good prices using that but I can get that pricing in numerous other places without having to pay for the discount club. For my .ca's I can save a buck with a Canadian registrar without the discount club as well.

That said, the discount club works for me just so I don't have to deal with all the coupons and such. The coupons never work on renewals anyways.

Not going to bother quoting you pricing because I am set up to deal in CAD funds on godaddy but I can tell you that it's an average price., not too much and not the cheapest either.

I preferred have a domain at Uniregistry but I also use dynadot since they provide afternic.com premium listing unlike uniregistry.com

I am also in godaddy discount club - but essentially deal in only .COMs. I don't know of a registrar that normally matches those prices - and it would need to be significantly cheaper in order for me to give up the other benefits you mentioned ealier.
