Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

It appears the days of grabbing decent expired cannabis/marijuana type domains cheaply at GD are coming to an end. ...sigh.

CannaCuisine is a great name. Hard to believe someone actually let that expire.
I think someone just overpaid. It’s a challenge to spell and long. Good domain if spell check is working right! :)

Nah, it's plenty short and easy to spell. No spell check needed if a person is even remotely educated.
CannabisCuisine, though longer, is still a great name. However, CannaCuisine has a much nicer ring to it.

I tend to agree with you about the overpay, but only if the buyer doesn't have a clue about selling mj names. An experienced reseller should do fine. If an end-user happened to grab it, then s/he just got a huge bargain, IMO.

Honestly, I figured you, or more realistically, Jason, ended up with it. Regardless of who, it will be interesting to see what the new owner does with it.

So it looks like (((eCanna.com))) sold recently in the last few months , some where around $8,900 or at least that was the asking price

https://web.archive.org/web/20180613002108/https://www.ecanna.com/ ( this is the page I remembering seeing last, when I looked it up....( I did this when I bought (e-Canna) in KING I was comparing the two .

Well seems whomever the owner was , sold this is now what shows

eCanna.com

If this is correct it just shows not all great sales go reported or are even known about. ( unless it's the same owner, that decided to develop it ??)

An adapted definition of Market Value

The amount for which an asset should exchange between a willing buyer and a willing seller in an arm’s length transaction, after proper marketing and where the parties had each acted knowledgeably, prudently and without compulsion.

Market value doesn’t equate to a fair transaction, as it relates to domains. If I buy a domain today for $5 and sell it tomorrow for $5000 what’s the market value? Clearly at $5 I got a deal in this case or, it’s really worth $5 and someone just overpaid by $4995.

There really is no such thing as “market value” in this business. We can take a guess at the worth of a domain and it may never sell at that value. On the other hand it may sell for 100x the guesstimate.

Again, if I’m a willing buyer and you’re a willing seller at $5 today, and I the buyer sell the next day for $5000 did the market value change in a day by $4995?

Answer is no. There isn’t a market value. Domain values are dictated on what someone will pay and where someone will sell. That’s not a market value it’s just an understanding.

Market Value = The amount for which an asset should exchange between a willing buyer and a willing seller in an arm’s length transaction, after proper marketing and where the parties had each acted knowledgeably, prudently and without compulsion.

@Keith best you consult your Accountant or Tax Agent who may assist you..

Most accountants and tax agents don’t know the first thing about domains, which is what we’re talking about.

So what’s the market value of X domain that I described in the example above? People drastically overpay all the time for names. Sometimes people get stuff cheap and are able to flip quickly for huge profits.

The entirety of people/companies that buy domains is the overall market. What one person spends on a single purchase isn’t indicative of what everyone would or should pay.

Having been an employer most of my life, I've always known that "perks" are some of best motivators ever offered to my employees. I've provided employees all sorts of perks from healthcare, to childcare, gym memberships, to education credits. This got me to thinking about medical marijuana.. who am I kidding...simply marijuana:xf.grin:,

Much to the chagrin of my critics, I was able to hand register a couple of perk(s) domains a few minutes ago. I struggled a little between Marijuana Perk(s) and Cannabis Perk(s). What would you have chosen considering shorter versions like Pot Perks and Weed Perks were already spoken for?

I'm sure there are pros and cons for each, but which perk would you prefer? Thanks,
In general, I prefer "Cannabis" for domain names. That seems to be the accepted terminology (both commercially and conversationally) that the legalized industry is going with.

"NEW YORK, August 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -"

"The pending legalization of recreational cannabis and the extraction of cannabinoids from hemp in Canada is only one in a series of changes bringing expectations of new growth to these industries.

  • Legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada is set to establish an industry worth billions of dollars every year.
  • American companies can make the most of this change through cross-border partnerships and Canadian subsidiaries.
  • Industrial hemp offers another option for companies in this sector, producing and extracting cannabinoids, including CBD and other cannabinoids, from the flowers and leaves will become legal on October 17, 2018."

Regretting not acquiring a few names (CBD/Hemp) names when they first came onto my "radar" ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Received a email from a US based CBD company that I am a affliate of and using my domains to redirect too (affiliate URL) and if I understand correctly, the Canadian legalization regarding advertising (same as tobacco), I am to use "Hemp Oil" instead of CBD oil .. can't wait till all the legalization (Federal/Provincial/Local) is finalized
~~~~~~
Wish I would have acquired more "Canna" domains when they first came onto my "radar" ..that keyword seems to be selling!

Thanks Joe...I need to let our NamePros friend Rex know I was somehow able land these names. He's probably the best source to help monetize them.

"Beats down" the hyphen...not from me!

Only thing I would have done differently is "Get" instead of "Got"..especially if it was a sales page!

But I can spend your money just as good as anyone else!
