Spaceship Spaceship

Hello Mods and Mems,

I received an email from what could or could not be PP.
It stated my Account Statement was ready to view.
I all my years with PP I have never received such an email.

PP SPOOF.jpg

The link shows https://epl.paypal-communication.com which goes to a
503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request.
if I just paste it in.
If I click the actual link in the email it takes me to what appears to be a regular signin page.

Any ideas on this?

Of course I searched and got conflicting results.

Thanks.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Odd..the domain almost seems legit, registered at MarkMonitor, same registrar used by paypal.com. I wouldn't trust it, high-end trickery. Have never received email from that source domain myself, always paypal.ca/com or a sub-domain of it.

Not sure about the US but in the UK 99% of paypal emails will come from [email protected] so I expect the US version would be [email protected]

However the SSL matches and the fact it does not work as a direct link makes me think that it is just a tracker domain to track click thru rates for customers.

As always though, even if this is legit, you should always go directly to the login page yourself and never via an email link.

This domain also uses the same NS as the regular paypal.com domain. Registered since 2011.
Sounds legitimate even though it doesn't :)
I would not click the link personally, but instead log in to paypal.com.

this is called phishing, report them at once to phishtank.com

I've received the same email with the same link address. Just ignored it because I don't ever recall Paypal using that 'hyphenated' address or sending monthly statement reminders I usually report all phishing emails but as you say couldn't be sure about this one, so didn't report.

Total scam. Forward it to [email protected].

No need to type anything, as they'll know it's a fake...cheers!

Strangely, the domain name is not hosted on that range like paypal.com.
Looks like a semi-outsourced operation.
Such a setup is bad practice for a company like Paypal but still fairly common.
Note that they have an extended SSL certificate.

I think I received this email too and ignored then deleted it. I only check from the direct website anyway to avoid these scams.

I can't say 100% but I don't think its a spoof. I've been receiving this recently too not only from PayPal but From Google as well. Its something they just started.
(Updated)
I just checked my email. Its not a spoof. That email belongs to PayPal. I have a PayPal business account so mine actually comes with charts and graphs of sales, but its the same exact email that you mentioned above.

I'm pretty sure I've had that email to an email address that isn't even associated with a PayPal account so I'm guessing it's fake.

Few months back I recieved regular, authentic mail from PayPal (signed by mail.paypal.com) in Gmail inbox which was heavy red labeled by Google with phishing warning / stealing personal info.
It can be mistake in Google security system but it was weird.

We can find out from the original message, maybe someone can help whether this email is PHP script or not. IMO
