Hello Friends, Let me share a story in short.

I register and buy names for one sole purpose; development. Two years back I registered few names to develop a news portal. I completed all the legal and other procedures in my country and took license as well. After a few days, I found that my websites are banned by Facebook (banned sharing). I tried to figure out what happened, messaged fb support, changed host, transferred the name to another registrar and waited for months but got no success. So I gave up those beautiful names.

Again, I registered a decent name sharedhani/com (means Shareholder) to develop a stockmarket based web app. I and my friend had planned for the project and did our research for weeks. Yesterday when we were discussing it on messenger, I sent the URL and got to know that the name too was banned by fb. I checked other few names which I was working on developing and more than 5 were banned.

Upon investigating for an hour what I found was all the names that were banned are/were registered at Alpnames.

The domains include:

- Previously registered domains

- First time registered domains

- Previously developed domains

No any problems with domains at other registrars. And the interesting thing is their main domain AlpNames.com is also banned from facebook share. I will contact FB through a business account and see if anything positive comes.

The moral of the story is: Don’t fall in the trap of cheap registrations. Stick with the good ones and do your due diligence before entering your card and any other details. The few bucks saved at Alpnames is giving me so much trouble now. Got some trouble there with.Info domains as well.

And also found this link during research: http://domainincite.com/22659-tech-giants-gunning-for-alpnames-over-new-gtld-abuse

Please share your similar experiences as well, if you have any. Also, please suggest me something to include on the conversation with Facebook support.

I agree.
If FB's algorithm is black listing the registrar then transfer maybe the only way to solve the issue.

I transferred out two of my names to another registrar but that didn't help me either.

I don't understand how can Alpnames be the reason of a domain, you own, being blocked on FB. Spammy links or domains usually get blocked on FB. You can't control that.

You profile which was previously restricted or got suspended for being a spammy can cause this problems.

Their DNS might be a problem. Theere are domains which were never developed/registered before which are banned from sharing. (checked in sharing debugger tool).
All names that are at Alpnames are banned and no single other domain at other registrar has such problem.
Maybe it is due to their Nameservers. The domain Alpnames.com itself is banned.

Thanks for bring this up. I read the article at domainincite and was shocked. Hence forth, I'll stay clear of Alpnames and their "cheap domains" - being their sales bait.

Hello Everyone,

We would like to inform you that we have been aware of this issue for some time, and that we have attempted to contact Facebook about it, but the only (very brief) reply that we have received merely makes reference to a new policy update.

Thank you so much for contacting Facebook regarding usage of URLs on Facebook.
My team just replied to me regarding this.
These URLs are not in accordance to our Policy and will remain blocked for now.
Have a pleasant day.
Kind regards,
Global Marketing Solutions Facebook

On testing this further and doing some digging ourselves, we found that the majority of domains tested that are registered with us link absolutely fine from Facebook, while a handful of domains did not - this was across numerous TLDs. We also found that many domains registered with other registrars also experience this problem. Thus far, we have come to the conclusion that certain strings may be blocked, but we do not know the reasons for it, or the algorithms that Facebook uses.

We find it highly unlikely that this is a name server-related issue, as some have suggested, reason being that our backend technical services are provided by PDR/LogicBoxes and the name servers we use belong to them - if it was a NS issue, we would expect to see many, many other PDR white label registrars and/or resellers affected. We continue to look into this, but with little to no guidance from Facebook, it is proving to be difficult.

Alpnames has a terrible reputation as an enabler of spam and abuse. Spamhaus have been tracking them for years. I think it has come to the point that any domain registered there is automatically considered suspicious. I am not surprised that content providers like Google or FB are now going for the nuclear option.

Picking certain nTLDs would probably yield the same results, since some seem to exist for the sole purpose of spamming...

Thats the Price you must pay when you register domains in a cheap worthless Registrar.
Remember, cheap registrars come with a nasty surprise, problems and headhaches!

Update after 2 years: Summary on How the story ended.

All my banned domains are now fine with facebook. Transferred them to namesilo.

Alpnames is banned by ICANN in 2019 hence they are out of business. Many lost their domains in this process. Except corona, everything is fine now.

In reality, no domains are owned, hence the reason why we pay the renewal fees; we are somewhat leasing domains.

Are any homes owned? Most require you to pay property taxes and if you don't you lose it, so are there any home owners?

My question was rhetorical hence not a discussion. It was meant to point out to others, NOT TO YOU, how bizarre your comment is.

It's an interesting comparison, but homes can't be taken away from you or being prevented from being used in the same manner as domains. TM infringement, business disputes, or because it suddenly becomes a premium location or whatever other excuses the DN world throws at us.

Property taxes are not the same as leasing payments in that they are towards the coffers of those we voted into office, that in turn is used for public improvement, not growing a private company's wealth whom can set whatever terms and conditions they like.
