question How many other domain investors own an RV

Watch
I know there are lots of people that jump on a jet and fly all over the world while buying and selling domains. But I'm curious, how many of you own an RV (E.g. Motorhome, travel trailer, Class A, Class B, Class C, Fifth-wheel, A Frame, Popup, Bus conversion, conversion van, etc.) and travel at least a few months a year in it, while domain investing?

Is this even a thing? Am I the only one? Where are you? :)

Does Van counts? Used to travel across east coast during my previous commercial cleaning business in the US.
Yes, vans count. Nice van. You don't travel anymore? Did you also buy/sell domains while doing it back then?

Back in the day, in the previous life, used to deal with them trailers(both single wide and double wides) in the parks for some extra cash, even moved a couple of them, used to be fun.I know this is a stretch to the discussion, but still the same family, If that counts :)
Not really talking about mobile homes. Those are very limited on traveling. I'm referring to a Motorhome, travel trailer, Class A, Class B, Class C, Fifth-wheel, A Frame, Popup, Bus conversion, conversion van, etc., that other domain investors travel in for at least 3 months out of a calendar year while buying/selling domains at the same time as they travel. :)

The longest we have tented in a row was just over 5 weeks, but that was prior to my domain name investing days. Did spend 10 weeks living in a small camper van about a decade ago, while travelling and doing a variety of temp things, I did own a few domain names then but was not trying to sell any at that point so not really during domain investing. We found once we were used to life in a van how little we missed anything that we did not have with us!

Since domain investing, the longest I have continuously camped was about 2 weeks at a time. I set my Undeveloped and Efty from BIN to Make Offers during the period in case interest came in while I was not in Internet access. This year we visited 6 of Canada's mountain parks (Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay, Glacier and Revelstoke) and it was great (despite a mix of some weather!). Canada has some pretty beautiful national parks (bit of tourism promotion haha)!
Sounds like fun, but it also sounds like you need a better data source, so you can stay connected for when you need it, allowing for longer exposure to nature. :)

Eric, I begun collecting domains in 2006, but the cleaning business took most of my time. I've moved back to EU in 2017 and had to sell my van (too big for shipping container) so no more traveling (unless bike riding counts :xf.wink:)... now more domaining.

They do make fold out tents on a wagon pulled behind a bike. Some even come with a propane stove. :)

Yes, so true! There are parts, not all that remote, that have no cell service here in the northwest, including one of our favourite parks. Of course if I got a smart phone it would help when other places :xf.smile:. I am hoping to wait it out and be the last person in Canada with a flip phone!

So, you're into the technology of the internet on a laptop, desktop, or tablet, but not the pocket computers connected to the internet they call smart-phones? :)

Lucky for you, you don't need a smartphone to tether data/wifi from to a laptop anymore. They make portable data-packs/hot-spots now days. The Verizon Jet-Pack is getting pretty popular. :)

I would really love something like that, unfortunately for me, the country I'm from don't have the roads and space to drive such a vehicle. I don't mind traveling to the big city with the family and renting such a vehicle

Sounds like you need a 4x4 off-road vehicle with a slide-in camper (If pickup trick) or a Van with 4x4 to convert. ;)

In many ways we love the idea of a camper van, but in our allocated parking space in the apartment building it just isn't possible, and while I know we could rent space to store it somewhere else in the city, it just was more hassle (and in total more cost) than we wanted to consider at this stage in our lives.

I think it is great those who are able to have a van or RV though, and it is wonderful to explore this amazing world while still living in relative comfort. The one big van trip we took, I still remember how nice it was down the Oregon coast, northern California, the Grand Canyon, and the desert south. Lots of good memories!

There is more of a sense now in the value of memories over possessions and it is so true. Thanks for starting this thread, @Eric Lyon, to get more thinking about trips they have taken, and trips that they might take, while still remaining active domain investors. A few times I have seen postings from people in remote places managing to finish deals via Undeveloped (as I recall) and it really does show both are possible.

Have a great night, everyone.

I have a 4x4 already, but the experience of spending a couple of days in a travel trailer class A/B/C going from state to state, would be the tip of the ice-berg for me at least.

There's so many different options these days though. We have friends in Canada that are full-time in a van and another in class C. They have no rent/mortgage, no utilities, and less stress/ They basically just drift around and park at free places (Boondocking & urban camping). The healthcare system in Canada allows them to not have to worry about added medical costs that full-timers in the U.S.A. have to worry about. Basically, all governments need a physical address for documents (Including banks). They moved in with a relative, sold all their stuff, bought an RV, travel 10 months out of the year and visit the relative in-between trips to pick-up mail. Sometimes the relative will forward their mail to them if they are too far away to get back in time.

Sometimes, a trip into nature for a while can sooth the soul and clear ones head. I love good memories more than material things, although I do have my creature comforts (Things that make me more comfortable and happy, like my laptop to be able to work remotely and A/C).

There's just too much beauty out there that so many people sadly never get to see in person. I know that we were not put on this earth to simply work, pay bills, and die. Obviously, with today's dependency on money and strict laws of residence, one must have some form of income to remain legal. A happy medium juggling the two for me is Working while traveling, which seems like a happy compromise to me. :)

Just came from 1 month long trip (Serbia, North Italy, Côte d'Azur, Paris, Champagne, Normandy (Mont-Saint-Michel, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach...) and one day in Austria on way back home. Total 6,000+ kilometres.
I am driving Ford C Max, we stayed at relatives(where possible) and hotels.

While we were travelling we saw a lot of RVs (smaller ones, not the big ones like you have in USA) and I probably wont go the RV route....too big, slow.

Sounds like an awesome trip :)

They aren't that slow. Ours tops out at 95 mph, but I like to keep it at 60 to 65 mph on the highway for better fuel millage. Besides, taking a studio or apartment on wheels in an aluminum and wood box with plastic and metal plumbing and fittings, the faster you go, the rougher the bumps and bouncing, which eventually loosens things, causing need for more frequent repair.

Eric...I use to cruise the ICW from VB to Key West and and back. I'd also participate on stock message boards and blogs similar to NamePros. Professions like equity investors and domainers can be accomplished from virtually anywhere in the world. So to answer your question, you're not the only one,
and I'm virtually anywhere today, and somewhere different tomorrow. Happy Trails!

Ya, these babies come in handy as BUGOUT vehicles. Not all are off-road, but they can still get you to a safer place when needed. :)

Ya, there's definitely some great benefits that outweigh the cons with a travel lifestyle, for me anyways. It's not for everyone, but for those it is for, it can be an awesome journey.
