Curious what all the experts in here think Graduates.com is worth.

I purchased this back in 2003 and currently run an alumni website there similar to Classmates.com. It's a free site and gets 367k uniques (probably a lot of bots) per month and 700k pageviews. As it lists many schools in the world it has 4.7M indexed pages.

Thanks!

Agreed. It's a five figure name for sure. You may want to get in touch with a broker who can properly market it for you. The existing traffic and clean history is a nice bonus to a great one word name.

Thanks for the feedback @Joe Nichols @coco77 . I did reach out to a few brokers but haven't heard back yet. I'm patient though. Coco are you talking $10k or closer to $90k ? I guess you never now until someone buys it.

@Wintermute
The price will vary you should be able to get at least $200,000 for it but possibly as much as $600,000. The problem is a reseller would pay max of $200,000 and there are a lot of those who would do that and hold it. An, end-user such as a college or something buying through a broker would probably pay $600,000 for it

Daniel, curious to know what kind of research you did to make this determination?

I think it's important for the OP to know that while this price could indeed be in the realm of possibility, it would likely require the ideal end user buyer, which could also mean holding the name for quite a while.

If I owned it, I would be willing to hold and wait. If you're looking for a quicker sale, then I would keep your expectations on the more modest side. It's definitely a good single word name, but it's not a killer commercial term or anything (unless you have some good buyers in mind that would be perfectly suited to it).

@Wintermute - Have you received offers on the name in the past?

Yes I think you can easily get mid XX,XXX to high 5 figures....IMO

I like it.

Retail: $40k on the low end and $75k-$115k on the high end.
Wholesale : $4k-$8k

You'd get six figures to the perfect end user, but it's gonna be a lot harder to sell in that range. I wouldn't say it's worth very much into the 6 figures but it has the potential to be sold into that range

Those backlinks and traffic make the name more valuable than it would be without any seo history. Good traffic and a solid back-links put it above similar names without any google indexed pages. You're guaranteeing visitors to whoever buys it and that in itself has quantifiable value.

@Joe Nichols I haven't had any (real) offers yet. I've had it for 15 years so I can wait for the right price.

I was thinking an online university might be willing to pay up but probably not an Ivy League school as it may tarnish their brand. But I really have no clue. An existing alumni or social networking site may also want it as that is what it currently is.

Thanks for your estimate slader. I'm realizing domain values are more like fine art vs real estate.

I wouldn't even consider online universities. Graduates.com seems more like a social network to me.

Yeah, agreed. Or even a recruiter? Job search company like Monster or Indeed (for the Canadians in the house)?

Yes for sure I definitely feel like it could be a job search company like monster and indeed. This name fits the niche perfectly.

0. No companies are approaching you because of a functional live website.

1. Put a banner that "This website is for sale" (in some creative words). Show indicative price of $100,000.

2. Most people will ignore it because of your high expectations, but soon you will start getting 5 digit offers.

3. Collect at least 5-10 offers data.

4. Then decide a price. Contact back the offers makers. Deal!

5. Do not forget to send us a photo of your vacations.

Thanks for the advice @andNames . I'm still attempting to sell the entire business intact vs. just the domain. The site still gets traffic and has around 1 million registered members. Ad revenue has declined a LOT in the last two years though. I'll probably do as you say if I find no buyers for the entire package.

Not good that this discussion is being indexed in Google IMO.

Almost a million registered members? OK...I might have undervalued the name then because NP crossed 1 million members last year and it uses a brandable name.

I'd be asking 6 figures, you're bringing a lot of additional value besides the obvious premium aspects of Graduates.com.

You shouldn't forward it to a lander. Put a forsale banner on your main page.
