Where do NameCheap's expiring domains get auctioned?

According to NameCheap's grace period policy,

NameCheap said:
for generic TLDs (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, etc.), you have a period of about 27 days at Namecheap after the actual expiration date during which you can still renew the domain at the regular rate.
...
If you do not renew the domain within this grace period, it enters a "redemption stage" for 30 days at the Registry. At this stage, the domain may be auctioned off by the upstream vendors.

There is contradicting info on their blog post on the topic that the domain goes to auction before redemption - but in any case, at some point it goes to an auction somewhere.

Does anybody know where NameCheap auctions off their domains as part of the expiration process?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It's been awhile, but I'm pretty sure in the past that I've seen a few of my NC domains that were still in Grace period (or maybe "fully" expired) show up in GD's expiring domains auctions. (Can't swear to it 110% though...)

Checked the couple that I am looking at, couldn't find them there. They have passed the "about 27 days" but not yet another 30, so the policy may be right and not the blog post.

Will continue checking GD expiring auctions. Does anybody else know where they may go?

The domains can't be auctioned in the 30 days Redemption Grace Period apriori...
During this period only the losing registrant has the rights to restore it paying Redemption penalty... ~$100 or even higher...

One of my .coms, at NC, expired on 6/13/18, and 31 days later was auctioned off by "upstream vendors". I thought this was the beginning, of the 30 Redemption period, after initial "about 27 days" Grace period. Correct me, if I'm wrong but it sounds like, I should've had the right, to restore it, by paying Redemption penalty, after it had passed the "about 27 days" but not yet another 30?

30 days RGP (Redemption Grace Period) actually begins when the corresponding status is shown in WHOIS and from Updated date.
So check WHOIS... If no such status - then your domain is just in AGP (Autorenew Grace Period, up to 45 days after expiration).

Yeah, current WHOIS status "ok"...
Unfortunately, it's no longer my domain...
To clarify, it expired on 6/13/18, and 31 days later, NC sent me an email, confirming Registrant change request, to someone I didn't know, had neither requested, nor authorized. When I questioned NC, they said, on 7/14/18, 31 days after it expired, it was auctioned off by "upstream vendors"...

Then check their Terms... or ask them...
If no way (for some penalty) to return the expired domain which was auctioned - then forget.

Thanks!
Update, FWIW...
Per Namecheap support:
"Unfortunately, this domain name was auctioned off on the early stage of the redemption...

...Feel free to use this link in order to get more information about Domain Registration Agreement https://www.namecheap.com/legal/domains/registration-agreement.aspx...

...the .com was auctioned off due to the Namecheap Domain Registration Agreement, paragraph 23...

...After expiration of the term of a domain name registration, you acknowledge and agree that offering a Reactivation Period is in our sole discretion and that we shall not be liable for any reason should we choose not to offer such period. If offered, the Reactivation Period exists for approximately 30 days after expiration of the term of domain name registration services and may involve additional fees which we and your Primary Service Provider may determine. You acknowledge and agree that, during this time and any time thereafter, we may make expired domain name services(s) available to third parties, that we may auction off the rights to expired domain name services, and/or that expired domain name registration services may be re-registered to any party at any time."

I'm right here, actually.

Unfortunately the redemption fee is something we need to pay, so we can't waive the fee. We've already lowered it recently but there's no way to remove or lower it further.

So what is your redemption fees ? And how much you reduced it ?

Typically it's $88.88 plus the reactivation fee (down from $200). This number is subject to change.
