As much information as you can include about the transaction is welcome, but at a bare minimum please include the domain name(s), the sale price, and whether you were the seller.

Finally got around to posting this one. It's from a while back but is my biggest so far and a few lessons learnt. Was worried about disclosing but realise now with a little more expeirince that it didn't matter.

Domain name: S.E.C.D.O. com

Sale venue: GoDaddy Domain Buy Service : Inbound

Asking price: $20,000
Sale price: $9,500
Purchase venue: Hand Reg
Purchase price: $4 (With GD discount coupon)

So a few things;

Registered the domain back in 2015 along with a handful of other short, prouncable brandables. Got an inital email of interest from the CTO of a company of the same name in June 2015, 3 months after purchase.

Being very new to domaining and a member of NP I tried to figure out what to do, decided on hiring a broker because I felt with their experience I would recieve a better outcome finincially even when brokerage fees were taken into account.

I emailed Adam Dicker, remember this was mid 2015! Put intouch with his lead broker who after a back and forth decided that the bottom price should be $4000 and to start negotiations at $7500.

After about 2 weeks I had received no contact from the broker, was not CC'd into any of the emails. The CTO contacted me personally once again and explained that she was not responding to his emails either. From this point I would deal with negotations myself. He stated it was a small startup and and felt they could stretch to $1500.

Negotiations went back and forward over a few months, the maximum from their end seemed to be $2500 but eventually I succumbed and mentioned that to stop wasting each others time then the minimum I would be interested in selling would be $10,000. I wanted to gauge their reaction. They agreed to the $10,000 and asked to proceed!

I came back that I had other offers and that the final price had to be closer to $18,000. Pure greed on my part after I realised I had shown my hand amd left money on the table. I should have been happy with the ROI and proceeded but heard nothing back from them for over a year after that email.

Eventually a broker from GD contacted me, initial offer $2500, I countered with $20,000 believing that they were the original interested party and that eventually the $10,000 figure or thereabouts would be reached. It took about 3 weeks and money in the bank December 2016.

Just 3 days after I agreed the final figure I googled them again and found that in the morning they had received a round of funding in the +$5,000,000 range

Sorry for the long post, should have made it a blog! I just thought it would be interesting for others to analyse a little background and try to learn from my mistakes.

@mjamescork And as of April 2018 they have been acquired by Palo Alto Networks and their crappy brand name will likely be retired. Likewise, the domain name will likely be abandoned and dropped within two years. You'll be able to catch it and sell it somebody else again!

Yeah, I've always kept one eye on them out of curiosity, interesting seeing how your former domains develop over time.

Out of interest to anyone that cares, their original domain was S/E/C . D/O ...which is still active, they obviously believed in the benefit of owning the king.

But yeah, I'll wait till it drops and sell it to another end-user...won't take me 2 years next time!

Offered to .com and .io guys @ 4.5k, the .com didn't reply but the .io guy countered 2k. Then he went silent on being sent the invoice.
Today he replied that he was travelling and paid the invoice.
Only my 3rd/4th ORG sale so far.
Covered pretty much all the details?
